Review

"I doubt you could have found this many top athletes willing to participate from any other sport. It's a credit to each one of these fine gentleman and the sport of MMA as a whole that they chose to be involved."

 "The Fight Professor" Stephen Quadros.

I got this book a few days ago and have found it to be an interesting and entertaining read. It is also surprisingly funny in places. It goes beyond the trivia you will hear at your local sports bar to share behind-the-scenes stories about your favorite MMA fighters. Many of the anecdotes appear to have come directly from interviews with the fighters themselves. I recommend this to both "old school" MMA fans and "newbies" alike.

Think you know your mixed martial arts (MMA) lore and trivia? Maybe you were watching the UFC way back when as Royce Gracie - the little dude in pajamas - was choking out and submitting massive behemoths.

Whether you are a casual or intense MMA fan - or somewhere in between - chances are you will get a kick out of Zac Robinson's new book, "Mixed Martial Arts IQ: Volume II. Author Zac Robinson has eclectic interests in both baseball and MMA, a curious combination of interests sort of like a doctor specializing in OB/GYN and in treating toe fungus. Nevertheless, Robinson has penned an entertaining test of MMA trivia and history.

Until "Trivial Pursuit" comes out with a MMA version, until the 1,000 channel cable networks of the future feature an MMA Network 24/7, with its own "MMA Jeopardy," Zac Robinson can serve as its interim version of Alex Trebec.

This book would be fun to have around as well when your buddies are over watching a UFC PPV. In between fights, you can test each other's knowledge.

You may think you know your MMA lore just because you know the different between an omaplata and an omelet. Working through "MMA IQ" can be a humbling experience. Robinson organizes his 250 brain teasers in the form of five graduated "Rounds," each bearing a martial arts oriented theme. Take the quizzes and find out where on the spectrum of MMA knowledge you stand: Tomato Can or G.O.A.T. - Greatest of All Time.

"MMA IQ" is:
a) Not the kind of book you sit down and read cover to cover
b) Not likely to qualify you for any marketable skill or job opportunity
c) Addictive like Lay's Potato Chips, you can't stop at just one
d) An entertaining way to assess the depth and breadth of your MMA knowledge
e) ALL OF THE ABOVE!

I purchased this book a couple of days ago and absolutely love it! From the moment I opened it, I couldn't put it down! I thought I knew a lot about the UFC, boy was I mistaken. MMA IQ covers every possible angle of the UFC, its fighters, and its history. Me and some of my buds pulled this out during UFC 112 and quized each other. Each section of the book has 10 questions, and depending on how you do, MMA IQ let's you know how UFC "Smart" you are. I basically choked myself out in every chapter, but learned a lot about the UFC in the process. I would recommend this book to any UFC fan, big or small.

Zac Robinson delivers with Mixed Martial Arts IQ volume 2. This book appeals to old and new fans alike. Can you go all 25 rounds? Can you master 25 sets of ten - sometimes easy, sometimes tough and always poignant questions? I found that this second volume has lighter and easier to read. Perhaps the numerous photographs and great behind the scenes stories liberally sprinkled throughout the book, helped put me at ease. I suspect it may also have been the fun, easy to read format Robinson is now famous for.

Note: Zac also co-authors Mixed Martial Arts: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports Mixed Martial Arts IQ: The Ultimate Test of True Fandom (Volume 1)(Sports by the Numbers) (An outstanding sports by numbers book) and Mixed Martial Arts IQ Mixed Martial Arts IQ: The Ultimate Test of True Fandom (Volume 1)(volume 1) both of which earn 5 star recommendations from me.

If you think you know MMA, and are up for the challenge; try your skill at another excellent IQ book from Zac Robinson. Perhaps you will be the king of the bar stool, or like me, you may fall into another category. In any event a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Soldiers' Angels and Hire Heroes USA both worthy causes supported by the books publisher Ranger Up.

Sam Hendricks, author Fantasy Football Basics and also Fantasy Football Tips
