Raven and Parker have hated each other since the day they met, it's best to keep them away from each-other, but they tolerate one another because Parker is Raven's brother Ryan's best friend. When Raven needs a chef for her bar Dirty, she has no other option but to hire Parker, against her better judgement, and sparks fly!
Watching these two interact with one another is hilarious. The banter between them is out of this world, you can feel the underlying sexual tension between them and you know at any given moment one of them is going to give in and things are going to get hot. Neither one of them really knows why they hate each other but they do. They push each other's buttons and are always in each others business. They know how to irritate each other and it makes for some really good reading! I loved reading all of the build up between these two and when they finally gave in, it was amazing, and then the aftermath was so angsty and also a little anticlimactic I was a little disappointed. They both obviously knew what they wanted, but they were scared, and instead of being adults about it, I felt they acted like children, until they finally were had this epiphany moment and were like oh wait.. we're adults, we can do this!
Seeing these two go back and forth with their fighting and flirtation, as well as dealing with Raven's family being in town was hilarious and definitely made for a great read. Parker and Raven needed to let go of their fears and let themselves go after what they wanted, in a way they are both very similar characters. They are both masters in their domain and don't like to let go of control, so both working together made for an interesting dynamic. I really enjoyed their story, but it took so long for them to figure it out and by the time they did, the story was over, which was disappointing to me. I wish we would have had an extended epilogue or something to see how things really did end up for these characters.
Overall this was a really good and lighthearted read. I enjoyed the laugh out loud moments and the chemistry between Raven and Parker as well as the crazy family of Ravens. If you're looking for a romantic comedy full of sexual angst I recommend Mixed Up by Emma Hart! Oh and I definitely plan on making some of the cocktails that Emma left for us at the end of this book!
This book takes place down in the Florida Keys, Whiskey Key to be exact, and our H/h are Patrick and Raven. These two go at it like cats and dogs and you just know there's this underlying chemistry that if they could put the claws away for just a few minutes they'd be on fire KABOOM!!!
Raven is a true mixologist and has her own bar in Whiskey Key. She's got some great drinks that I think I'd like to try on my next tropical vacation. She's decided to expand her bar to offer food, but can't find a chef that is worth his weight in Michelin stars...well she could, but her brother won't do it, and his best friend is the dreaded Patrick. Add into the mix, the fact that her family is hold a reunion over the summer and her VERY Greek family will all be in attendance. That alone had me cracking up!
When these two decide to work together in her bar, well it wasn't really decided, it came about for a variety of reasons, let's just say there's more than food being cooked and drinks being mixed! What I loved so much about this book is that Patrick's feelings for her really came out of nowhere and he just didn't know what to do about them....
"Raven Archer had her own gravitational pull, and I was afraid there was no breaking free."
Talk about throwing him for loop. Whatever that pull was for him, he embraced it, in fact they both did and leave it to Ms. Hart to give us some of the dirtiest talking, steamiest sex imaginable! The underlying animosity these two had was the driver for them coming together between the sheets and it was unlike anything they'd ever experienced before.
The book moved at just the right pace for this particular story. There's family drama that not only was rolling my eyes and laughing out loud, but agreeing with as I spent my fair share of my Summers growing up with my cousins and their very large Italian family. Greek or Italian when you get that many differing personalities in a room, just stand back and watch the melee!
This is definitely a book that will be a re-read for me because it's just that much fun! I loved their enemies to lovers story, the fact that even when they're together as a couple, the snarkiness doesn't stop and the laughs will keep them going!
