Raven is the owner and mixologist at her bar, Dirty, in the heart of Whiskey Key, Florida. Having recently renovated to include a fully functioning kitchen. All she needs now is the chef to make it work as she planned. Unfortunately, Whiskey Key is running extremely low on the talented chef population and since her brother (a chef) bailed on her he offered up his best friend for the job. Never mind that Raven and Parker have hated each other since she was practically in diapers.
Parker is back home in Whiskey Key for the summer. When the opportunity to help out Raven comes across he isn't sure why he offers to help - they've always hated each other and he would prefer to stay in the land of the living and not the focus of one of her rages...
These two - Oh My God!!!! Raven was so beside herself that she started feeling anything at all for Parker. She was lying to herself as much as she was everyone else in her family and friends circle. Parker on the other hand could practically see it happening between them and was helpless to stop it and reluctant to label it. But he didn't deny it quite as vehemently as Raven did in the beginning.
Their story is funny, moving, HOT and the peripheral characters (all of Raven's family in for the reunion plus the circle of friends they both share) were entertaining as always making for a well-rounded story with meat to the story and not just a blasé romance story. LOVED IT! ENJOY!
I say eventually because it wasn't until around the 50% mark that it went bad.
Raven hates her brother's best friend Parker, we're never really shown why. It makes the whole thing weird. There has to be something more significant than just personality clashes to have long sustained hate like is suggested.
Bottom line, there wasn't much relationship development between Raven and Parker other than bitter snark and sex.
If you are a fan of sassy banter and a lot of sexual tension between the characters this book is one you don’t want to miss. This book will have you laughing at every turn. I also loved all the fun names Raven gave to her drinks.
As with every Emma Hart book, she gave us engaging characters and a captivating storyline. I have to be honest and say, that I don’t think enemies to lovers is my favorite type of story. I truly enjoyed reading about both Parker and Raven and I loved their characters separately, but together I really didn’t feel their connection. I think that is because of all the banter and snark between them. I think that went on for too long into the story that by the time they professed their feelings for each other, I had a hard time believing it. But I find I have the same problem with most enemies to lovers stories that I read.
Now even though I say that, I believe this is a book everyone should read. It is told in Dual POV and has NO cliffhanger. This is a complete standalone and no other book needs to be read first. I will say that I wouldn’t be sad to see Emma write a book for Camille (Raven’s BFF) and one for Ryan (Raven’s Brother and Parker’s BFF). I also enjoyed that Emma added the forbidden aspect to the story, being that Parker and Raven get together and that crosses the Best Friend line between Parker and Ryan, so that just added to the angst.
In this book we meet Parker and Raven. Raven is the owner of Dirty. A local bar located in Whiskey Key Florida. She has decided to expand and add food to her bar, but she is finding it very difficult to find a great chef to hire. That’s when Ryan suggests she hire Parker who is back in town on a vacation for the summer. To say this is the last thing she wants to do is putting it mildly. But with needing to find a chef and the upcoming reunion her bar is hosting for her family, she is at the end of her rope. What happens when you put two people who can’t stand each other together day in and day out??? Well you need to read this book to find out.
Can Parker and Raven actually learn to love each other?? Will they learn to get along??
I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Emma’s books. She is the queen of sexy, sassy banter and some serious snark. Also if you love an angst filled enemies to lovers story, then this is one you should pick up. I think you will truly enjoy it!!
