First off, I did not buy the block buy itself. I bought it as part of the Miyabi Evolution set. It is this same exact block.

Pros: Looks nice, good solid construction (it's a block of wood). I like the location of the hole for the shears.

Cons: Doesn't seem designed for the knives Miyabi has (at least not the series I got that it came with). The two smallest holes do not fit the smallest knife in the Evolution series. So, they're a waste of space. The slots are very generic. 2 small, 3 medium, 3 large, and a slot for the steel.

Summary: They need to design blocks for the sets they sell! The generic nature wastes space, and doesn't allow you to use the block if you were to fill out the basic set with standard additional knives (like slicer/carver, an additional chef knife, and an added utility knife). By adding those 3 common knives to my set with the block, I have 2 knives that have "no space". My solution (not perfect, not good) is that two slots have two knives in them (blade to blade, but slightly overlapped... shouldn't damage anything if careful when putting in and taking out).

I'm actually now looking for a block that will actually be USEFUL. Very disappointed in the block. Love their knives, though.
