Mizuno Men’s Wave Kazan
The Wave Kazan takes the Mizuno Running experience off-road in our most versatile and technically advanced trail shoe ever. Throughout the development process, Mizuno partnered with professional ultra marathon runner, Michael Aish, to ensure the right combination of support, flexibility and cushion to tackle any terrain were delivered in the shoe. Aish’s own personal wear-testing experiences, including the popular 100-mile race, Leadville, provide real life insight to help improve the product and push the limits.
The Wave Kazan derives its name from the Samurai battle standard of “Furin Kazan,” meaning “move as swift as the wind, stay as silent as the forest, attack as fierce as fire, and be as undefeatable as the mountain.” The Wave Kazan is versatile enough to tackle the most treacherous terrain, yet light and nimble enough for more moderate terrains. And at just 9.5 oz., the Wave Kazan is light enough for a fast day on the trails, yet rugged and protected enough for an epic, 100 mile ultra. Wherever your run takes you, it’s tough to beat the Wave Kazan for all-purpose adaptability.
Key Features of the Wave Kazan

Super comfortable light shoes, i could spend the whole day wearing them. Material on upper seems like a ripstop wich gaves a nice touch, mid sole has a type of foam for comfort and outer sole seems very strong and rugged for a nice grip on those dirty roads. I bought another pair of Mizunos in the past but i wasnt very impressed (wave enigma 2), but seems the brand keeps improving in technology and materials, making Mizuno very competitive with the other big names on the market.
This is not only a performance shoe, but a cool statement i could wear in almost any ocassion.
I needed to replace them, but had seen some mild reviews of the new Peregrines. When I was fitted for my road running shoes I had tried a pair of Mizuno Waves (I forget which iteration) and I liked them, but found a different pair I liked better which I finally bought. Knowing how comfortable those Mizunos were, I was fine trying out the Kazans considering their ridiculously low price. For the price I got these if I didn't like how they felt on the trails, I could wear them to mow the lawn and feel justified.
They're softer, and a higher offset than the Peregrines which took a little getting used to, but on the longer runs I feel less beat up. On short runs of speed, or on harder, rockier trails, I feel like I don't feel the trail as much. This is both good and bad.
I have no doubt these will work fine for my 13+ mile trail runs.
The fit on my foot is similar to the Sauconies, just like I said, a higher offset.
