5.0 out of 5 starsBest shoe for me!
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2014
This shoe is perfect for me. I first found out about this shoe at a specialized, local running store and was fitted for it. I am normally a size 6.5 but in this one I wear a 7 & of course a wide fit. The wide fit accommodates a bunion on the big toe. The shoe takes the pressure off the balls of my feet and the heel is padded and comfortable. This is the best shoe I have ever had that addresses my feet troubles. I am on my second pair. With the wide, Mizuno has only this color choice for women. It is fine with me because I am concerned with the fit. In all, the shoe relieved the bunion, the balls & heels of my feet. I do want to add that I have removed the sole of the shoe and replaced it with a high quality sole that specifically takes pressure off the ball of my feet for added support. Would I still purchase this shoe if I didn't replace the sole? I absolutely would. There is no "wearing in" of the shoe and comfortable the moment I put them on. Too bad heels can't be this comfortable!

3.0 out of 5 starsCool looking, but not as comfortable as other mizunos
Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2014
I had two pairs of wave rider 14's, and loved them. They were the first shoes I ever found to fit my narrow-ish, but long feet. I couldn't find 14's anymore, so I bought these. They are making my feet really sore! I can't explain it and maybe I have to break them in? But I have worn them nearly 10 times, just for long walks, and my feet are uncomfortable. No specific area of my feet are bothering me, just achey all over. Also, in a street shoe, I wear 9.5-10. In the wave rider 14's, I had to do a 10.5. But in this style, I did a 10 (10.5 was too big.)

5.0 out of 5 stars I really feel these shoes were worth every dime.

Okay, so here's the deal. I am a tightwad! I seriously dislike to carelessly spend my money! And being the person that I am, I did a lot of research before giving up my money. I found the reviews on these Mizuno shoes were greatly positive on amazon and several runners magazines and websites, so after a battle with my inner demons I finally decided to purchase these shoes.

What have I got to say about these shoes?
Amazing. With my previous sneakers I never felt enthusiastic about running, it was a hassle, but I guess that what I got for purchasing $40 shoes. My heels would hurt I would get new blisters, it was hell! So finally I decided to invest a few more dollars for better shoes. With these shoes I feel like I can run more miles that I previously had done. These shoes provide wonderful cushioning, I no longer feel the horrendous impact of the cement. Rather now I feel like I'm riding the wind. Wonderful.

Pros:
Comfortable
Mesh. . . the shoe is very breathable
The heel. . . the added height provides the perfect impact reduction
Style. . . I found it to be very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it was true to the image. I ordered the white/ultraviolet

Cons:
I have yet to find any, but if I do I will surely update this review.

I would recommend this product to anyone who runs on a daily basis and for long periods of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome shoes!

These sneakers are very comfy, but you MUST order at least a half size up, or better yet a full size. The Mizunos run very small. I myself had to return the first pair that I purchased as sizing up a half-size still left the shoes too tight. An 8.5 in the Wave Riders seemed equivalent to what would be a 7.5 in Asics or New Balance.

These shoes are great, my knees no longer hurt in these. The foam in the soles is compressing faster than I expected. I carry a very heavy pack, and weigh about 135. I feel like I am at (or beyond) the upper limit of what would work for this shoe; it seems built for more light, limber folk who carry little. It is a running shoe after all. So, it may not last as long as I had hoped.

These are as comfy as Asics used to be for me years ago, before they changed the cushioning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than its newer model

These are my favorite running shoes, and when I saw the reviews of the Wave Rider 17, I immediately bought a second pair of the Wave Rider 16s. These shoes are amazing, especially if you have high arches and are prone to walking on the outside of your feet. They correct the pronation of my feet better than any other pair of running shoes I have every had.

I strongly suggest going to a good running store and getting your feet measured and sampling running on them, particularly at places with cameras attached to a treadmill so that you can confirm that your feet are falling correctly. These shoes helped me avoid the shin splints and knee pain I normally get from running.

I seriously hope that Mizuno does better than the 17 with the next generation of the Wave Runner.

However............what a pleasant surprise that they are absolutely the MOST comfortable exercise shoes I have ever put on. The arch is terrific--I especially appreciate the great heel support. I have plantar fasciitis, so a good arch is a necessity. The shoes are light yet are well-supporting, comfortable to wear all day long. I was a nurse, and I believe these would have been great shoes to spend long shifts working in--I know I do not mind being in them for long hours exercising and then remaining in them going for long walks with my dogs. The mesh covering on top is nice and cool in the heat of North Carolina summers. I have worn Asics for the past 5 years, having been sold on their comfort for my feet, but these Mizuno shoes are even more comfortable than my past two pairs of Asics.I would highly recommend them, even if Wendy had not worn them to make them so very cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars at last!

these are amazing.

i stumbled upon the mizuno brand almost three years ago and was pleasantly surprised by how well my feet were supported and nothing hurt after wearing them while working out and running. it took some doing (ordering three different pairs of the 'wave' style, and ultimately not choosing the 'alchemy,' which was the website recommended style) but these are the most incredible, comfortable, WEARABLE sneakers i have ever owned.

there was absolutely no break-in period. i wore them for three miles my first day, straight out of the box, with no problems. i then went running in them and they kept me going farther than i would have ever gone before. they support my overpronation, they are lightweight enough not to weigh me down, and they are colorful enough that i want to wear them.

it is with much sadness that i retire my old pair of mizuno waves... but at last i have found a worthy successor!

Love these shoes. These are the only shoes I've found help with my foot pain while running. I found I was an underpronater (lucky me) and since it is a smaller percentage of the population, had a hard time finding shoes to help my feet. Well, these babies solved my problems.
I love these guys. I saw them at academy in the bright red/green combo, tried them on and tested them with jumping jacks, running, sprinting and had almost no pain. Wow. I came online and bought them on amazon for the color and price. If you're lucky you can score these on sale with amazon coupons sent to your inbox. Take advantage cause these can get pricey!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 5th pair of Wave Rider Mizuno
Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2013

I finished my third run today in my new Mizuno shoes and love them. This is my fifth pair of the Wave Riders and even though I've tried on other shoes (brands and styles) this is home for me. I do feel like the 16 is a little more narrow in the toe area then my previous shoes starting back with the 12, but I feel like the fit overall is the same. I have had a size 10 in all my other mizuno's and I went with that same size and I have no complaints! The colors for the 16 are GREAT but there is a little less flashy details on the newest model in comparison to the 14 and 15. Overall I love them and will most likely buy another pair after these have bit the dust!

5.0 out of 5 stars Winning shoe style for wide feet
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2014

I had my feet professionally measured so that I knew what type of foot I had and what size shoe I really needed to prevent injuries. I needed shoes that I can lace more tightly around the middle section of my foot but leave my toes free because I do not like them constricted. Mizuno won the trial/error shoe contest.

I ordered these to replace a previous pair by the same company that I loved and wore until they had holes in them. I have been very happy with my current purchase. They're super lightweight, very comfortable, and have held up well under the stresses of daily use. Plus the color combination is really fun. Highly recommend.

Color is not my favorite but they were a great price so who cares. Anyway, I had given up on Mizuno a few years ago because the toe box was too small. I read the reviews on this version of the Wave Rider and people were complaining that the toe box was too big. I knew that meant I could try them again and they are perfect! I DO NOT have wide feet but I do have bunions so need room for that. I have run with them 4 times so far and am loving how light weight they are. I had switched to New Balance because of the previous issue with Mizuno but New Balance are heavy shoes. I will stay with Mizuno Wave Rider (unless they change the toe box again.)
