Product Description

Mob Hits: Music From And A Tribute To The Great Mob Movies is the ultimate collection of songs from all of the greatest mob movies: The Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco, etc. The Mob Hits collection has more songs from the great mob movies that even the original motion picture soundtracks! If your answer to Who shot JFK? is I dunno nothing, I was cleaning my glasses, then this compilation CD is for you!

Amazon.com

As you may already know from seeing it hawked incessantly on late-night TV by Jerry Vale, Mob Hits is a compilation CD that attempts to capture the ambience of the modern gangster pic by assembling songs heard in key scenes of such films as The Godfather, GoodFellas, Donnie Brasco, and Casino. While licensing restrictions keep the music of Frank Sinatra from being part of this collection (odd, as the address on this package is the address for his long-time label Capitol Records), the selection and sequencing of well-known Italian "hits" by Vale, Dean Martin, Louis Prima, Lou Monte, Al Martino, and Julius LaRosa gets the job done with discretion and honor. And the liner notes even offer a toll-free number for homemade pasta sauce. --Gregg Turkington

I am an Italian American. Born in Washington, DC. I went to highschool in Milano, and also lived for a time in Napoli and Bari and am a member of the Italian Cultural Society in Washington, DC. I love the country, and am proud to be an Italian. Although I work for a federal Law enforcement agency I love the mob movies! The Godfather and Goodfellas are two of the greatest movies ever made and host sound tracks to die for (a little joke). The music on these CDs is not only fantastic and not only Italian but in the mob movies as well. Sure Italians are stereotypically portrayed in film, as all being mobsters, but the truth is that they aren't all mobsters, so get over it. And thanks to people like Roberto Beninni that is changing as well. These songs are in the mob movies and are timeless! So sit back, relax, light up a cigar, and enjoy!

From "The Public Enemy" to "The Godfather" to "Casino", Mob movies have always been among my very favorites. So when I heard about this set I was just thrilled. This set has almost all you could want as far as the traditional italian music is concerened. I gave it 5 stars but there are only 2 minor problems. One, this could have fit on one CD instead of two 30-min CDs. That just seemed like more of a reason to get more money. Two, while it's understandable that the licensing for the "Godfather Waltz" from the movie prevented the original from being on the Cd, there is no excuse for the lousy remake at the end of disc one. They should have left it off.
But the Cd is filled with the rich sounds of Dean Martin, Louie Prima, Al Martino, Jerry Vale, and more. Its a great album to listen to in the car or while your having a meal or just whenever you feel like it. It represents the mob movies well and I can't wait for Mob Hits 2.

Gave this CD to my father-in-law and he plays every single morning as he begins the days. If you know someone who is a fan of the big Italian singers this is the thing for them. I see a few complaints in the reviews but I think they should be taken with a grain of salt (and a pinch of parmasean!). Even for a devoted fan this a great collection that belongs in the background of any good dinner party.

I absolutely love this cd! Just listening to all of these classic Italian songs makes me feel proud of my Italian heritage. And to those who feel that it negatively portrays Italian Americans, get over it. I,myself, am first generation Italian American and I am the least bit offended. People need to lighten up and simply sit back and enjoy this wonderful compilation of music!

I first heard this album while visiting my mother's house and what a wonderful step back in time it provided. A good glass of wine and some candle light and your set for the evening. It evoked memories from my childhood when things seemed to be simpler and life was at a slower pace. I can not wait to get my own copy and have my children enjoy the music as well. Thank you for the memories!! This is a wonderful piece of work.

The first time I played this album, it immediately evoked very strong memories from my childhood. Growing up in a Sicilian home, if we wern't listening to opera, it was Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. The songs took me back to simpler times when a good time meant a large bowl of pasta, some good wine, family and friends all crowded in our kitchen. GRAZIE!!

A 2 Disc set where the CDs are 32 minutes each?? What a scam!! This could have easily been issued as 1 Disc, and would have been worth the money for those into this type of music. Plus, 3-4 of the tracks are not the original versions! Save your money and pass on this one as-is.

Got it as a gift for my son who surprisingly listens to music other than rock before I stole it. It's all Italian organized crime-related movie numbers and the type of songs I hated listening to as a kid when my grandmother played crooner albums. I now love it fifty years later except for the disappointing last song by Paul Anka singing "My Way" in what may have been the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary basement; not the best singer, place, nor selection and it wasn't from any film. He's a Turkish guy from Canada singing an American Sinatra ballad. All else is great, even for non-Italians.
