3-13-2015 31,000 mile edit:
So I've been running Mobil 1 exclusively since day one. I've performed 7 oil changes on my car 5 were this 5w50 blend. My opinion still stands this stuff works great. My driving style is quite spirited, combined with Southern California traffic and several track days at Willow Springs this oil has been vetted. Oil consumption after the break in period has been nil. I've had the oil tested by black stone 3 separate oil changes and the results have all been excellent. The oil isn't suffering from abnormal shearing, there aren't any solids or metals and each report pushes for me to extend the oil change interval. I'll stick by my first review the car has responded well to this oil. Valve train noise is minimal compared to like cars that don't run Mobil 1, this is a direct comparison to the factory motorcraft which I believe is rebranded Valvoline and a car running Castrol Edge.
There is a lot of commentary and opinion debating wether or not this is a true synthetic due to differences in base stock used in the formulation. When I enquired with Mobil regarding the differences between the "Rally Formula" and the "Peak Life" Mobil's response was that the formula was the same and that it was only packaging changes. They stick by their claim that this is a full sythetic. I'm not sure in whose claims hold water partly due to the fact that Mobil isn't exactly forthcoming with their recipes. I do know that I've tried both versions of the oil and I can't distinguish between the two.Read more ›
I'm happy to report it was a great success! This was an extremely cold winter, and even at -18ºF, my car cranked and started in the morning and did not "rattle" or "knock" on startup, indicating oil flow was adequate and lubrication was fine.
Furthermore, now that we're seeing 85ºF days in June, I'm not seeing the oil consumption that I used to back when I used 5W30 and 10W30.
I will continue using this product.

Good stuff. I use this as my top up oil on a 2005 Porsche Turbo S which is FBO, runs E85 fuel and is around 750 bhp.
I do use quite a bit of oil as I really give my car the curry most days I drive her.
I did notice in winter that with the extreme cold temps where I am able to drive my car (28F and above) there was some extra oil burn. The 997 GT2Rs Porsche cars came with this from the factory.
I use 5W-40 Mobil 1 on oil changes mid year and 0W-40 around winter if the car will be driven

I purchase 2 cases of 5w50. Instead I received 1 case of 5w50 and 1case of 5w30. Not very happy at this time as I need to cage my oil and now have to reorder another case.Published 7 months ago by Danushka
