The M18x is one of the largest and heaviest laptop computers on the market. The M18x fits snugly into the messenger bag. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not appear to have strengthened the stitching to enable the bag to support the weight of the M18x and power supply during routine travel. I purchased my M18x in August 2011 along with the messenger bag. The first messenger bag lasted about 2 weeks before the shoulder strap separated from the bag due to its inability to support the weight of the M18x and power supply. I returned the bag to Amazon and received a new one. The new bag lasted about 3 weeks before one of the carrying handles snapped off while I was going through airport screening. I have now returned this second bag to Amazon and am seeking a replacement bag for my M18x.
Unless the manufacturer strengthens the stitching to accommodate the M18x and power supply, stay away from this bag.
I had no idea how poorly their laptop bag was constructed until after comparing it to some other name brands, and other quite cheap bags.
The problem is not the quality of the materials but failure of design on the various points which will carry the weight such as the shoulder strap connections, shoulder-strap and from what I read the handle itself. I would be less upset if this had occurred after 12 - 18 months, but less than four weeks?
If you do much travel or have an 18" laptop then the current M18x is not for you. Or to put it another way, it is like a high performance sports car with safety belts made of string cheese.
I was a bit concerned when I'd read a few reviews saying that the plastic rings were crappy but I think the company heard that loud and clear because our bag has metal (as do some of the other reviewers) so I think they updated the product. It has a plenty of space for his ASUS (which is much thicker than the average laptop) and the other pockets hold his other items securely. The padding is pretty solid, too. I wouldn't chuck it off a building or anything but he often keeps a handgun in the spare pocket and it doesn't press into the main computer space at all.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this bag. He has had it for a couple months now and just said again yesterday, out of the blue, "I really like this bag. Seriously- a good buy!"
This 18" Mobile Edge bag has been a great choice and works great for my needs. The shoulder strap is comfortable. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 since it does not have wheels or a handle extension for those who don't want to put 20 pounds of laptop + accessories over their shoulder.
