Also, the pocket on the outside is too small to fit anything other than maybe a couple cds (but no jewel cases).
This is an example of a product with good materials and good intentions but seriously BAD design. They dropped the ball.
The side carrying loop is surprisingly strong as it uses a parachute type stitching. I wouldn't trust swinging my laptop around by holding the carry loop but it is so useful pulling out the laptop sleeve out of my backpack.
Double zippers are a plus in case one fails.
Small outer pocket can easily fit my headphones, external hard drive, or even my power adapter.
This sleeve has lasted three years of my undergrad life and I have no doubt of it failing anytime soon.
Once I had decided on the computer that I would purchase (Toshiba 'Portege' R-830 series with 13.3" screen), I zeroed-in on compatible 'sleeves' that would give my computer a safe place to be when not in use. Apparently there is much demand amongst 'MacBook' users for "protection" for their expensive investments, and since the 'Portege' is almost the exact same size as a MacBook 'Pro' 13.3" (with the DVD slot-loading drive), I also looked for 'sleeves' for the MacBook 'Pro', knowing that they would also fit my Toshiba.(NOTE: the popular line of Toshiba 'Portege' R-835 laptops will also fit this sleeve as they all share the same dimensions).
I finally decided on this well-reviewed Mobile Edge 'sleeve' and am delighted with the quality construction and the 'perfect' fit! My 'Portege' fits nicely inside the 'sleeve' with enough room to leave the Logitech 'Nano receiver' plugged into the USB 2.0 port between the HDMI output and the eSATA/USB connector. (The little 'Nano receiver' protrudes about 3/8" from the computer's left side).
I'll also comment that there is a strong 'plastic' odor from the new neoprene material that will diminish over time - I put the new 'sleeve' in a zip-lock plastic bag and put it(without the computer) in my refrigerator's freezer compartment overnight to help 'kill' the odor sooner. The fit is snug and secure (MacBook Pro). A few reviewers have said there's nothing to protect the laptop from being scratched by the zipper. That's not accurate; there is a flap of neoprene that can be pulled up over the edge of the laptop after it's been inserted. I've lost some strength in my hands, so it was a little hard to do the first few times but is now a little less stiff. In keeping with the snug fit, the zippered front pocket is made to lay very flat when empty. I'm able to fit inside a wireless mouse and the smaller power cord for the Mac. It's a snug fit with no shifting around.
I wasn't sure how accurately the color would be portrayed onscreen (and I know not all computers will show exactly the same color). It's a pretty red. Not crayon-bright primary red. Not deep burgundy. The closest I can come to describing it is having a very slight rusty-red cast to it. The contrast piping is a light tan rather than pure white, which works well. (For those who notice and care about those sorts of things.)
A few reviewers have commented that the product had a bad odor when it was removed from the packaging, and that was true. I wonder if all neoprene products tend to stink initially. I bought a Kindle neoprene case that's fine now, but smelled for a *very* long time. The odor with this laptop case dissipated over a few days and is not noticeable now.
