Mr. Matt Larsen has written an excellent book about the Modern Army Combatives Program. Mr. Larsen has taken a lifetime of martial arts experience to include many life lessons and has placed it into an easy to read format. This book provides a detailed account of the development of the Modern Army Combatives Program from its initial development to its current place in the United States Army. This book is a must read for U.S. Army leadership, sister services and members of law enforcement. This book addresses training methodology and some of the pitfalls that were initially encountered during the development of the program. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and strongly recommend it to anybody in the U.S. military or law enforcement that does not understand the importance of the hand to hand fight. The book is relatively small, 6"x9", which allows it to fit into the cargo pocket of the ACU uniform. It can be used as a pocket guide on training methodology for all Combatives instructors. Do not let the small size of the book fool you, it is full of great nuggets of information that all act as great life lessons. Whether you are planning on opening your own dojo, opening your own business, or trying to start your own program in the U.S. military, you can learn immensely from Mr. Larsen's personal experience in this book.

As a BJJ Black Belt and World Champion myself who's trained for 20 years, this is the real deal. We can all talk theory and simulate combat in competition, but the lessons learned from war are unassailable. Matt Larsen has put together a work that should be required reading for every solider and citizen, who wants to defend himself and those he cares for. I can't think of any reason every person should read his work assembled here. Like the title says, these are "battle-proven techniques". Anyone pursing self defense, being a better solider and comrade, or anyone teaching either has a mandatory obligation to read this book.

Having a second read and review of this book I found the content informative. Wish it had more pictures and diagrams like Thompsons H2H. being a visual Kinestic type, see and do. I have the Kindle version, maybe the print is easier to interpret. Generally a worthwhile read.

Combat is unlike any full contact sport and as such soldiers must train and embrace tactics and a mentality conducive to success. This book is a great tool in the journey to self improvement. With a thorough history to understand and familiarize yourself with the military combatives implementation, simple to understand instructions and helpful illustrations; it would be crazy not to own your own copy. Wether you are a rookie or a seasoned fighter this is a wise investment sure to please all!

Written by the founding father of MACP, Matt Larsen. He explains why this is the best fighting for soldiers to learn. Matt details the system of learning and advancing in the Army's fighting program. Every soldier, especially NCOs, should read this book. You cannot get more to the source of how to train than this book.

This book gives the tactical framework of who, what, when, where, why, and how of a training plan. This book really shows how to create and present a curriculum. This is a great book for any martial arts or military aficionado. This book is a great supplement to any martial arts technique handbook. Thank you Mr. Larsen for laying out a positively awesome path. Oss.

An excellent read that not only shows the techniques that today's warriors can use in battle, but also details the history and development of the combatives program from its inception.

You can't go wrong learning from Matt Larsen!
