This book is really different from the others: first in the main it is not about jazz improvisation (jazz improvisation - is already well-established linguistic stamp), but more about IMPROVISATION as such, no question about harmonic patterns 2-5-1, bebop lines or any avoid notes (there simply is no such) . This tutorial is for other routes - outside of the ivory tower of traditional jazz. It is very practical: reading takes the hand and leads to where the reader would hardly have gone on their own initiative: free improvisation - the book explains what is this freedom; polystylistic improvisation, modal and polymodal improvisation ; tonal, extended tonal and atonal improvisation .
This book is not against the Jazz - the author knows how to play traditional bebop, it just leads into the sphere of music, where soar the names of Stravinsky , Messiaen, Schoenberg, Bartok, Cage.
The book also refers to the principles of building a form of free improvisation, without which the spontaneous music just falls apart.
The book also refers to the use of modern techniques of the piano, and not always this only applies to the keys ...
"Modern Improvisation: A Practical Guide for Piano" suitable for jazz piano players and for classical pianists , who want to expand their knowledge in the field of improvisation.
