We recently remodeled all three of our bathrooms. We used this Grab Bar in the Polished Chrome or Brushed Nickel finish in all three bathrooms. Six in total. In each shower we mounted one horizontally and one vertically. In the bathroom with the spa tub, we mounted it over each wall where you get in and out of the tub. Although I don't have severe mobility issues, it is just great to have these grab bars at hand. Makes getting in and out of the tub almost effortless and infinitely safer, and it's there to lean on when shaving or washing feet in the shower. Of course, they're there to prevent falls, but useful even when not an emergency fall. It's a relatively expensive grab bar, but it is so much more attractive than standard metal or plastic ones that they are worth it. My contractor mounted them with additionally purchased extra heavy duty molly bolts (bought at local hardware store) since he felt the ones they came with were inadequate (why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5). These are mounted VERY securely. I'm heavy and my husband is heavier and they feel secure when we put all our weight on them. I also love the rubber pads on the underside. You can't really see that in the picture. But I originally bought the first couple at Lowe's and was able to compare the various brands and styles there. This was really the nicest one at at decent price. But, I found Amazon had them for less money, especially as we are Amazon Prime members.

Our home is a newer home and has something I would call a "spa" bathtub, a bigger than usual bathtub that is more uncomfortable to use (for me) than the standard old tub. This said, the biggest problem with it is that it's very hard to get into and out of. The tub and the enclosure is a bad design. When upgrading this bathroom, we decided to add a grab bar for this tub. There is a limited selection at the big box stores and many of them look like something you would see in a medical facility. This Moen unit was not only functional but stylish as well.

At 16" in length, it at first seemed too long. But, as I watched my wife try to use it (as we tried to determine where to put it and how high up), I saw that she was using two hands to "get out". So, the extra length was a good thing. Also, the rubber finger grips on the bottom side seem like a good thing to help prevent slipping if your hands are wet.

You can mount this either vertically, horizontally, or at an angle as long as both ends are screwed into "studs". If you can't do this, you have to purchase special drywall fasteners. In my case, we needed to mount this vertically as close to the end of a wall as possible. Here, I had wall studs to attach to. Installation was simple and quick and long screws and a required Allen wrench were provided.

I have used quite a few Moen towel bars and assessory products in the past and have found them to be of good quality, functionality, and value.

If you expect this item to look anything at all like any other brushed nickel product you will be disappointed. It is brushed aluminum and a very rough looking "brushed" finish at that. It looks exactly like the very bright brushed aluminum water bottles sold in sporting goods stores. It will stand out like a sore thumb if you have any other REAL brushed nickel fixtures.

I use this vertically as a getting in the tub/shower grab bar. Hooking a small towel around the bottom part works great for drying hands while in the tub. Looks good, easy to install.

You need to buy the special Moen SMA1005CH Home Care Securemounts if you don't attach it to a stud.

Great product. If installed properly on studs, it will last as long as the wall it's attached to. I'm a big guy (over 250lbs) and this supports me easily. The installation is trivial, but the alignment is tricky. The bar and the two end joints (that fit under the decorative cover that you see in the photo) attach to two anchor flanges with hex screws. This may sound like a weak design, but it really isn't.

The fit relies on tight tolerances (e.g., 1/16") so you have to be pretty accurate when you place the anchor flanges. I found that the easiest way to do this was to put one screw into the stud on the outside (away from bar) of each anchor flange while the anchor flanges (minus decorative plates) are firmly attached to the bar. Then remove the bar from the anchor flange, put in the second screw on each anchor flange at the opposite side of the anchor flange, then reattach bar with decorative flange attached. The instructions say to secure the anchor flanges as I did then mark and drill the holes. The problem with this approach is that you can't mark the holes that are under the bar accurately because the bar is in the way. I like my way better.

I specifically bought this 16" length grab bar for single stud vertical mount. Moen advertises that their SecureMount (what I call anchor flange) allows you to put more screws in the stud than their competitors. I think that 2 screws is max for each anchor flange as the stud is only 1 5/8" nominal width and if you try to put more than one screw (these screws are fairly substantial - they require a 1/8" pilot hole) within a 1" diameter or put one that is much off linear center of the stud, you run the risk that the stud would split.
