A moisture analyzer, sometimes called a moisture balance, analyzes moisture content in a material sample. A balance is an instrument used to determine the mass of an object. A moisture balance uses heat to dry a sample, and then calculates moisture content from the before- and after-drying weight. This process is called loss on drying (LOD). In addition to moisture content, some moisture analyzers also calculate dry content, weight, and moisture content compared to dry weight, also called ATRO moisture content. Measurements are displayed on the balance, or transferred to a computer. Moisture analyzers are used in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, paper, and milling industries, and in research applications. Applications include product quality assurance during storage or transportation, and in manufacturing and pharmaceutical applications.
