Inexpensive, Reusable pH Test

I was looking for an inexpensive and reusable way to test the pH of soil in various flower beds around my yard, and found it! This meter appears to be accurate within 0.2 points, and also can be used to measure light and moisture. Great deal! One small issue: the pH measurement does not work well if the soil is too dry. Wetting the soil somewhat appears to be necessary to get an accurate reading.

UPDATE: After about one month of use, the meter began to give inaccurate readings, measuring everything as 1-2 points too alkaline. Roughing up the tips of the probes with steel wool fixed the problem. So keep the probe clean and dry, and from time to time you may need to use something abrasive on the probe tips in order to preserve accuracy.

I've used these meters before, and unlike many other reviews, I think they are wonderful. Many users are far too expectant of the strength of these metal poles. You cannot force these into compacted dirt and expect them to not break. It is all about touch and pushing them from the poles not the top meter piece.

It only really works IN dirt. Do not expect it to work in plain water, with hydroponics setups or anything other than plain dirt. It works well, But the soil must be semi wet to get an accurate reading. To have a tester so cheap that not only gives you a better idea how your water penetrates, but also shows an idea of light intensity as well as ph without batteries is a good deal. You do not have to fuss with other methods and can still gain a lot of insight in all different areas of your soil.

The light meter sends be more calibrated to outdoor lighting but will give you a good idea on indoor lighting intensity as well. I've tested it by pulling my cell phone light closer and further, and it makes sense on the readings. When it is roughly an inch away, It showed enough light to efficiently be able to process and grow. If it is pulled away It is much less intense so it reads that it would not be enough. For how cheap it is, it can be very beneficial. The moisture meter is great for checking around your pots for seepage and dry or clumped spots. Paints a very accurate picture of how well the insides are doing (of the pots not the plants).

One thing to mention outs the ph shows higher around larger root areas. Prolly due to the uptake of nutrients. Always test multiple areas.

Love this product would def buy again. Came much faster than estimated as well.

Handy tool for testing soil moisture, pH and lighting conditions

For the price, this is a great little gadget to fine tune the conditions for your house plants, garden and yard. It does not require batteries, just move the switch to whatever you want to test, pH, light or moisture and insert the prongs in the soil or near the light source. It is not sophisticated by any means, so may not be accurate enough for professional gardeners. The prongs are pretty long, which makes it a little bit unwieldy for smaller house plants, but more versatile for larger containers or testing soil. It did take several weeks to get it (ships from China) but it is a handy tool to have.

Received in working order, has three features, but I only cared about the pH meter.

pH meter is responsive, but I cannot tell its accuracy, but it does work

Light meter is responsive but not that sensitive...in darkness to a table lamp, the needle did not budge until it was 1-2 inches away.

Moisture works and seems fairly accurate.

The meter I received works as described, moisture reads the same as another meter I have. The soil Ph seems to work, I get a lower reading in soil I prepared to be slightly acidic. The light meter is a very small sensor, about 1/16" square just below the needle/window. This can make it difficult the read the meter. I haven't been able to find out if the meter reads in "candle power"or "lux". If you want professional results buy professional equipment, this works great for the average green thumb.

pros: very affordable, multifunctional (measures moisture, pH, and lighting) so I'm able to keep my plants in a comfy zone, also comes with a guide for the soil moisture requirement of hundreds of plants.

cons: took 1 month to finally arrive, probes are a bit bulkier than ideal (which can damage thin roots when you push it into the soil), also the needle indicator changes depending on whether I position the meter vertically or slightly slanted so I'm having slight concerns about its accuracy.
