Don’t you hate when you buy a huge notebook and have 2/3 of it left over? Been using these perfect size journals for my classes for years. Thought I’d write a review for those OCD students out there. Typical will only have 5-10 little pages left and it’s the perfect space for finals notes. You feel very complete and satisfied to fill out an entire journal with no wasted sheets of paper. Conservation minded folks would also appreciate these.
I also hang onto my notes from each class and they store great and look very clean and neat. Typically have a variety of colors so I know which class it is without having to label the outside. Looks very professional and you won’t need a huge back breaking back pack with these guys. Small purse or laptop bag is fine. 100% worth the extra price. Use the planner too. Has entire page for notes. Crisp clean feel. The red one in the pic is 2.5 years old. Holds up nicely over time

Awful if you are using fountain pens

I'm blaming Hide & Drink for this. I love(d) their products and they explicitly referenced Moleskine cahiers for their covers. Silly me, I trusted Hide & Drink and got the cahiers. Oh dear. I tend to be polite so I'll not fully express my thoughts. Do you use fountain pens, in particular very nice fountain pens? Do Not Buy Those Cahiers. Maybe you've a 5yo granddaughter (I do) and you can gift her those "thingies" (I did). She complained. Looks like crayons do not work well with those journals either. Pity. How to waste money.

First impression: nothing to write home about.

I'm neither a Moleskine afficionado nor devotee, so my opinion may be based on the fact that I don't deem this brand to be superior to others as a general rule.

I purchased this set mainly because I live in the South and there's nothing approximating fall or winter here, so I wanted a notebook that would at least make me think of warm fuzzy sweaters and stuff like that. I'm not sure how or why Moleskine considers this size to qualify as large - I would've called this medium, personally.

I also wanted to try out various layouts for creative writing, journaling etc - and didn't want the constraints of lines, dots and so on. In that respect, it's a nice enough journal. The covers are okay, about the weight of cardstock but honestly not something I would expect to survive being thrown into a bag or backpack on a daily basis.

One of the things that I personally really dislike and that, admittedly, is my own fault because I didn't see that in the description is that there are a whopping 16 perforated, detachable pages. Not sure what the point of that is but it means about 1/3 of the notebook has those.

Just touching the paper right now, shortly after receiving them, it seems ridiculous flimsy and thin. I'll update this review after I've had a chance to try out different writing utensils - but I already have a feeling there will be a lot of bleeding/ghosting. Keeping my fingers crossed I'm wrong on that count.

Either way, first impressions are decidedly "meh". The price point isn't terrible, I purchased this set for a hair under $14 so not quite $5/notebook - but even at that price I'm not exactly wowed. We'll see how it turns out when I start writing on the pages...

I've been using nothing but these Moleskine Cahier ruled journals for years now, for my diaries. They are slim, flexible and durable---easily fitting in pockets, handbags, backpacks, etc. As a compulsive journal writer, I never go anywhere without one. I love writing outdoors and find the paper shade (natural or "bone") easier on the eyes than bright-white. These journals will open nice & totally flat without damaging the sewn binding in the least, and the rounded corners of front & back covers and pages never curl or become dog-eared. I use the last perforated pages mainly for phone numbers, email addresses, various notes, doodles and lists. The semi-pocket inside the back cover ends up stuffed with shopping lists, coupons, business cards, pressed leaves, etc. I use up about one every 3 months, so I need about 4 per year. I print off and laminate my own digital art/photographs for the covers. For the quality you get here, I think they are a pretty good deal!

I Absolutely Love Moleskine TN inserts

I absolutely love these inserts (I use them in my TN’s) the paper is thin but I’ve used a variety of pens and haven’t had any ghosting or bleed thru except with the sharpie test.
I always buy grid or dotted and these are perfect. Very nice well stitched spine. Small spine lol but still it’s better then two staples keeping them together IMO at least, the last 16 pages are actually perforated- which works for me when I need to take a page out for any random reason! And the small flap/folder in the back is a huge help with many things I need such as receipts etc. just put them on in there and you know where to go when needed. As long as my TN’s will fit with these. These will be my insert journals of choice!

I love these notebooks. I love to doodle--that's about all I can manage.(I wasn't gifted by being an arstist.) The front cover can be "doodled" on, as well as the inside front and back. The texture of the pages is almost silky--if you can imagine.lol Regular ballpoint pens glide over the page. I purchased them to be my Bible journal. It's the perfect size to fit inside the cover of my bible, or even in the pages. College ruled, which is my favorite. I recommend these to friends. I will purchase again!

I love the Moleskine cahiers...it's the only thing I write in. The paper is strong and receptive of my ink, the cover durable enough to withstand abuse yet pliable enough to fit in the back pocket of my jeans, the size perfect. And because they're available worldwide, I can always pick one up in any decent-sized city when my words come fast and I overflow the pages. The different colors are useful for more complicated novels to keep different threads untangled. I've tried other premium brands too and this is the only one I use for my writing.

Nice paper, but thin

These are great for pencil sketches, with smooth, creamy paper, but at 70gsm, it is thin and easily shows through.
I bought 'large', but in truth they are only 21cm by 13cm, which makes them the same height, but narrower than A5. I would more accurately call this 'small'.
The binding makes it difficult to keep the paper flat, especially towards the end, and also at the end you need to put something between the paper and the pocket, to prevent ridges showing through.
These are slim, lightweight notebooks, fairly insubstantial, but you don't have so much 'new notebook' fear with something like this!

Moleskines are normally my favourite notebook, and I got these for some small notes on some side projects I was working on. I was actually looking for more of the cheap Tiger Cartridge paper notebooks that I love, but this was the closest I could find that I could trust on paper quality. It turns out to not be very good though. The paper is very thin, and every word copies down through several pages, unless lightly sketching in pencil. Not in terms of bleed mind you, its not cheap paper perhaps, its just thin so the indentations come though a long way,

Moleskines are my notebook of choice; the paper is the right weight, limits bleed-through (if you use a very dark ink, there is some bleeding) and are a pleasure to use.I have a good number on the go at any one time, for different functions. The extra large I use for longhand first drafts of novels etc. This size is perfect for all kind of jottings, free-writing, journalling and so on. The cardboard cover is a lot more resilient than you might expect, as I've toted several across Europe and they just get a little battered but the entire notebook stays strong.
I tend to buy and stockpile when they're on offer, or add to another order to get free postage and packing, as they'll always get used. I also have a number of fancier journals that often take a long while before I use them because I don't want to spoil them by writing in them; if you're a stationery addict you'll probably know what I mean. Moleskines can be used for ordinary, everyday writing without any sense of guilt but they're excellent products and well worth paying a little more for.
