I got these, the small Rhodia notebooks, and the Field Notes notebooks to evaluate for daily use. So this review is kind of a comparison also.

I'm a senior controls engineer and keeping things in my large notebook has become difficult with all of the moving about that I do. Carrying a small notebook in my backpocket has been the best option I've found so far. I was a long time lover of Moleskine (for personal use), but mixed it up with this assortment of purchases.

1) Field Notes - when I got all three notebooks, this was my favorite at first. The paper is possibly the highest grade (shocking, right?) but the giant "FIELD NOTES" printed on the front wore on me over time. Now I use these for carrying during a hike. I record a few key things just for fun and tracking. I can't recommend these highly enough for outdoor use. They're super rugged, the paper is ultra-high-quality, and they size is perfect. Workers perfectly with my Sharpie Pen with no bleeding or show-through.

2) Moleskine Journals - This is what I ultiamtely ended up carrying for work. Paper is second only to the Field Notes notebook and even there it's close. The pages are perforated and the notebook has a tiny folder in the back for holding loose pages. This makes carrying it all the nicer. I don't have to keep a grand organizational scheme; I write and then sort it out later. Sharpie Pen doesn't bleed or show-through. Cover is unmarked (apart from a small bit of embassed text on the back). The cover is pretty durable, but not nearly as rugged as the Field Notes' cover.

3) Rhodia Pocket Notebook - I wanted to like these but the size is slightly too small. The cover is plain paper. And, althoguh some disagree, the paper quality was the worst. I had slight show-through from my Sharpie Pen but not bleeding. I don't have much else to say about this one since I've used it so little.

These Are great little notebooks for transient disposable notes. I don't like them as much for notes I want to keep long term as the paper is a little lightweight I wish it was 15-20% heaver weight paper...but they are very portable and the paper takes ink well. Not weatherproof though at all. It would help if the cover was a little more resilient to pocket wear and sweat. Overall though, Very All Purpose and small in the pocket. I don't mean to make them sound like a bad deal... I actually like them a lot for just a notebook for transient thoughts and quick notes I won't need later. I have just learned to move notes that I really need to keep to a notebook that does not live in my pocket.

Fantastic notebook. Moleskine notebooks are usually variable in paper quality, often plagued with severe ghosting and/or bleed through when using fountain pens. I had purchased this small size by accident (I normally use the extra large), but was pleasantly surprised by this set. These small cahiers hold up even to a TWSBI ECO in medium, one of my wetter pens, using wet inks. Minimal ghosting, no bleedthrough, almost instant dry time. They have just enough tooth to provide enough feedback so that the nib doesn't slip around on the paper. The paper cover is surprisingly durable, and the small form factor makes it one of my top choices for an EDC journal to jot down impromptu notes and ideas.

Compared to the extra large cahiers and the volants that I normally use, the paper quality is far superior for some inexplicable reason.

Nothing fills my heart with quite the same joy as an empty kraft-covered moleskine notebook. I love the brown covers especially (because I like drawing on them) and love the paper and love this size book particularly.

Make sure you check what type of paper the book has when you order it, as moleskine offers several types, including blank pages, lined journal pages, graph paper ...

I can't think of anything negative to say about these books.

I love these little books! I have had Real Moleskines, fake Moleskines, higher quality journals, bad quality 99c journals, I've had them all. For my journal uses, I have a leather Moleskine hardcover that I love (and is regular size). I use these little ones for taking orders and they have a nice elegant look that goes w/ the bar's vibe. They're decently priced, only wished there were more pages as I used them in a disposable fashion. Don't love the lines, however, might go for blank pages next time. The best part about these is that the cover is paper so I can just recycle the whole thing when I'm done!

No longer fountain pen friendly

For years I used Moleskine notebooks with my fountain pen. Previously there was no bleed-through or feathering. However, this is not the case with the latest Moleskine notebooks I purchased. Using a fountain pen now means you can only use one side of each page (because of bleed-through). That is disappointing. However, the notebooks work just fine with a ballpoint pen (but not a rollerball).

I Feel Naked When I Don't Have One Of These With Me

As an incessant scribbler and travel writer, I find these to be completely indispensable. I keep on in the outside pocket of my purse at all times, and have dragged them all over France and Costa Rica, taking notes and jotting down observations for future reference. They are small enough to fit in even my passport/phone purse, and I can write as small as necessary since I am unconstrained by lines. Also, the pages are perforated, which has come in handy on several occasions. The first picture below was of a (terrible) sketch of the floor tile at Claude Monet's house at Giverny, where they would not allow you to take pictures. The second was a recommendation for places to look for in Paris that was written out by a guy I met on the airplane ride over. The only reason I have either of these things is because of this wonderful little book. The last picture is a side-by-side of a new one and what one looks like after I've dragged it around for awhile. Naturally, I like the second one better.

(I'm not going to open anything because the cover is not due for over a month.)

The notebooks are a lot thinner than I'm used to, the full pack of three being about the thickness of my current notebook, which is thick for a pocket, and doesn't fill up that quickly. I could always use two in the cover at need.

The ruling is nice and narrow with 23 lines to a page. This is good for me as it keeps my writing small and neat, and hence readable.

Given the well known brand I was expecting better paper quality with these notepads. The paper is too thin and you get really visible bleeding on the other side of the page. Not just that, but you get imprint marking of what you have written 2/3 pages underneath as well. May be alright if you are just using pencil.
