This review is about this Swix wax. This wax combines moderate fluoridation (making it good for wet snow) with molybdenum (making it good for either very dry powder, or dirty snow like what appears in the spring). I can vouch that this combination has been excellent for most mountain conditions. There have been many days where there's been powder at the top, spring slush at the bottom.
The wax I was using before was just a plain fluoro wax. It worked great in wetter snow, but terribly in dry powder or in serious spring slush, which tends to be dirty/coated with tree pollen.
Because the wax is expensive, I applied it using the crayoning method. This means rubbing it thickly on the bottom of the board like a crayon, then melting the wax in with a waxing iron. Of course, it usually helps to clean the base first with base cleaner.
The instructions will say not to apply this wax on clear ptex bases. That's because the molybdenum will appear as specks of dirt. But, seriously, if flecks of black on your pristine base freak you out, maybe you have no business being on the mountain, except as a terrain park groupie who sits around all day talking big and smoking pot?
Back to the KY jelly. It was really slick, but only lasted for about three minutes. Which is exactly what it's intended for.
