Creative girls will really enjoy the various pages of book, such as the page devoted to listing their favorite things (colors, foods, authors, etc.), or others that provide Scripture references to look up. Reading this book will allow girls to explore their interests, while simultaneously learning Bible verses. If you gave this book as a gift to a young girl, I imagine she would be very excited to receive it. I had previously read Flander’s book Get Up and Go!, and while this book is completely different, it shows how Flanders consistently creates quality products.
I received a review copy from BookCrash.
They can write it, map it, color it, or just doodle if they would like. This devotional journal has room for them to expound on scripture and what the Lord might be saying them to them personally. I love that their answers will NOT be the same. I love that they can talk about what they think the scriptures are saying as they fill out the pages in their bedroom and they are learning together. Sometimes laughing is involved. I love that they can laugh as they learn about our Majestic Creator. He as our Heavenly Father probably has joy from it too. What parent doesn't love to see their children have joy?
This devotional journal is not set up for a weekly or daily focus. It can be an anytime journal. My girls are zooming through them because they are liking them so much. My youngest told me she is skipping some but will be going back through them later. As a teacher, I am thrilled that they are having fun mediating on His Word and practicing other skills i.e. reading, writing, and study skills.
This book is also a memory book. This is one where she would put her memories, her hopes, her prayers, her wish lists, her desires, her goals for her and the Lord, what scriptures mean to her, what her past failures may be, how she can change her future and so on. It has a place for all of it and starts with a writing prompt for the girls to finish so they never have to wonder what to write. It really is an amazing little gem.
Not to mention, the cover is so pretty - like a light tealish blue that matches their rooms.
Overall, I would totally recommend this devotional journal. It is fun, family friendly, and is exactly what I want for my kids to ponder on - His Ways and the Truth.
The first thing I loved was its Victorian style, with its fonts like calligraphy and primer letters and the clip art silhouettes and scenes from mid-1800's, the book makes a girl want to dream. Even the shape of the book is lovely, being wider than other books.
After falling in love with the way the book looks, I sat down to read the content. It is a journal, so many pages have writing prompts, Victorian clip art, and lots of space to write (which as a writer, I love)! The opening Introduction is a letter from the author encouraging girls to think about the deeper things in life and focus on God as our comfort. (I think Ms. Flanders and I could be best friends.)
This book is chalk full with Scripture, quotes, hymns/songs, prompts, space to capture all kinds of memories, goals, favorite things, even mini Bible study on worry and service, current events, prayer, an address and birthday records sections, and much more! There are even two pages that have bookmarks that can be photocopied.
Ms. Flanders has three more devo journals coming out soon (one for boys, moms, and wives). I can't wait to get the mom and wife ones! As soon as I got this book, I wanted to buy 20 more to give to all the girls I know at church. It's that fantastic!
