We purchased these door knob covers because my 15 month old is now tall enough to reach the door knob and press in the lock. He isn't alone for more than 5 seconds where this would really be an issue, however, I prefer to not have to worry about him accidentally locking himself in a room. They were very easy to put on the door knob. It is still very easy for an adult to use the door knob. It is not at all cumbersome and prevents my son from pushing in the lock on the door. At this time, I only have the covers on the knobs with locks. Once he is older and can actually turn the knobs, I will buy more.

Too many design flaws

There are two tiny tabs that are supposed to push in on opposite sides to grip the door knob and allow you to turn it...but they don't work. They are too small to apply any real force, and they are not roughed up on the inside, so unless your doorknob is made of a very rough material, they just slide around without actually turning the knob. If you have one of those multiple-sided glass doorknobs, they might work with that, but any normal doorknob is not going to turn with these.

The little flap in the center, that's supposed to give you access so you can use a key or turn the inner set to lock the door is too small to get your fingers into, and the flap is nearly impossible to snap back into place unless you hold the cover and press the flap very hard.

Finally, after a very short time, my daughter figured out that the cover is not held together very well and she could just pull on it and it would come apart at the seams and fall off. So it even fails at its dedicated usage...keeping small children from getting out the door.

If I'd paid any more for these, I would have returned them. As it is, I just threw them in the trash.
Don't make the same mistake I did...don't buy this product.

Good for some door knobs

These work best on some of our larger door knobs. We have some others that came in a safety kit that fit most doors in our house but not a few larger door knobs. On the downside, you really want to get a snug fit, because otherwise they're rather difficult to open. If you have any hand strength issues, you won't be able to use these. I have to use my dominant hand and sometimes it takes multiple tries for me to get it open. If you have the right type of door knob, these are fantastic! If your door knob is the largest size this will fit, you barely need to put any pressure on the button sides to open the door. That could potentially lead to a toddler being able to open said door.

They only half-work! :(

For our door knobs, these were a nightmare! The rubber "grips" under the tabs just slid all over the knob and you couldn't open the door no matter how hard you pressed! They definitely keep the toddlers out of areas where they shouldn't be, but they kept everyone else out, too! It's a real pain to "crack" these off of the door knob every time I need to get into a certain room. I haven't found a set that actually works like my older Safety First ones. (The newer ones don't have tabs at all, just holes so you can turn the knob yourself- which is what I'm going to have to do with these- break the tabs off!) Ugh!

Not bad ...

They work, and keep the kids out (some adults too). The two rubber pads on the inside (that assist in gripping the door knob) came off and made that one impossible to use so we had to discard it and replace it with another. Would I purchase them again ... good question, I may look for another option, problem is, there isn't really another option ...

These do as they're designed to do. But it's fairly easy for the lock flap to pop open, yet difficult for it to snap back shut. With a small amount of pressure, the pieces can pop apart, causing the entire cover to fall off. They're still serving their purpose for me, but I wonder if there's a similar, yet better, option.

Actually fits spherical door knobs

Our doorknobs are round spheres, not flat on the front like some. Other covers don't slide around so you can open the door without squeezing. These fit ours great!! You have to squeeze them to open the doors and the lock cover adds another layer of protection!
