Helping make power strip tamper-resistent

Curious Children are always tempted by electrical plugs, outlets and switches. Power strips are now a common sight in many homes, controlling and protecting computers, answering machines, kitchen appliances and power tools. Our Power Strip Safety Cover protects both the children and the equipment from the dangers of curious little hands.

Caution

Fits most standard single row outlet power strips and surge suppressors.
Easy operation. Just drop power strip into Safety Cover, plug in cords and snap shut.
Convenient access to on/off switch.
For added safety, includes four outlet safety plugs for any unused outlets on the power strips.
Not intended to be substitute for proper parental supervision.

Directions For Use:

1. Place the power strip in the Safety Cover as shown making sure the outlets are positioned to be covered by the double door and the switch end is under the small door. Insert all plugs into power strip. Fill any unused outlets with the enclosed outlet safety covers.

2. Using both hands, close the double doors and snap them shut. making sure all the cords come out through the slot between the two doors.

3. Finally, close the small door. Use the small door when you need access to on/off switch. The long double doors only need to be opened when adding or removing plugs.

After plugging the appliances into the outlets, the cover securely snaps shut with four latches making it difficult for small children to open. For the power strip user, there is a separate latchable door for convenient access to the on/off switch. The interior of the Safety Cover is spacious enough to accommodate many types of plugs including most transformers and heavy duty three prong plugs as well as standard two prong plugs.

Not long enough for most of my power strips and not tall enough for some of my adapters.

This power strip cover is a great idea and necessity for households with young children. Unfortunately, the power strip cover did not fit most of the power strips in my home because they were too long to fit inside the cover. Even if a power strip fit, the lid did not close because the power adapters did not fit. For example, the cover would not close when the power adapter for my MacBook pro was plugged into the power strip. Therefore, the cover did not work in most cases because it was either too short in height or length. The interior compartment is approximately 13.75 x 2.75 x 2.75 inches. The measurements were not written on the packaging. It just states, "Fits most standard single row outlet power strips and surge suppressors." I ordered four of these covers and was able to only use one. I will be searching for another power strip cover that is both longer and taller to accommodate my power strips and power adapters.

Bought two. Waste of money. If you want to plug anything else into this, other than a standard outlet cord, your sol. Phone chargers? Fire TV cord? Anything that has a block, like a block with a USB outlet.... Nope. Won't fit. The outlet cover isn't high enough for those. And considering the amount of electronics and chargers, that use a charging block these days, selling an outlet strip safety cover that does NOT work with any of those is just ridiculous. Wish I could give zero stars. Because that's the amount of use I'm getting from the two I bought. Zero.

Works just like it should. Not super hard to get apart but enough to deter a young baby. My son is very interested in cords and plugs and he looks right past this and doesn't even try to mess with it.. yet. I liked that it came with additional outlet covers to cover unused plugs on the strip.
The plug for our baby monitor is pretty tall and hits the top of the inside section, but it has enough give to it that it still fit.

Still protecting the kids 4 years later

I bought a few of these 4 years ago and my kids have continued to be protected from power strips.
They are still in great condition: have not warped at all.
I did have to modify them a bit. I lined some electrical tape in the hole where the cords come out of and taped up the part that opens up for some extra security from little hands.
Most of our power strips fit in these.
Great product for the price!

Looks good, but could benefit from a couple improvements

This product kind of does it's job, but would benefit from a couple improvements:

-We find the slit opening at the top (where the chords are threaded through) is a little large, or wide. It would be very easy for a child to fit an object through the opening and down into a socket. For this reason, we still have the individual outlet covers on the power strip.

-The latch that holds the cover closed is really hard to open. You have to pry your fingernail under the latch to open. Isn't impossible to open, but it is enough of a deterrent that i find myself plugging things into an outlet across the room, behind the couch, because it is easier.

The plus is that these don't look totally ugly. If you have to leave power strips in sight, these are much less of an eyesore.

It's a good size for most surge protector/power strips, and adequately large for all plugs we try to put in it. However, it can be a huge pain in the butt to open...even for an adult! I don't know if there's a way to design it so that an adult can open it without using tools like a standard screwdriver or keys to pry open the tabs, but it'd be great if it were just a tad easier. In fact, I've worried a couple of times that I would *break* the tabs, thus making the case useless

If you don't have to open it very often, it's great!

Does not work with large plugs

We have a power strip for our entertainment center that we use to plug in our TV, DVD player, modem, router, and Roku. Three of those appliances have large rectangular boxes at the end of the plug with the cord coming out of the side. These do not fit in the safety cover at all, so we can't use it. This product needs to be redesigned to be roomier on the inside so that it can actually fit these larger plugs. The product would ONLY work if you are just plugging in standard two- or three-prong cords, such as the power cord for your PC or phone charger.

Easy to install

Easy to install. I know the slit in the top is bag enough for a small child to fit their fingers into but they won't be able to shock themselves pulling a cord out even if they're strong/smart/old enough to because they can't pull the cord and have their fingers in it at the same time to shock themselves.

Also, for the unused plug ins on my surge protector I put the regular plastic plug ins on so he couldn't shock his little fingers on that.

If you're looking for child safety, this will do it. If you're looking for a product that you will never have to worry about being inconvenienced by a child unplugging something this might not be it but it does what its actually made to do so I love it. I doubt my little one will be able to unplug anything anyway.
