Good writing and characterization

It's a well written story, but despite a strong beginning it got through to a conclusion I found less sexy rather than more. Some of this is stylistic, some of it practical. Stylistically the sex in the last half of the book, although it had some nice description, kind of slowly merged together into one orgy done in serial rather than parallel, that felt rather like one of Heinleins later author tracts on the virtues of polyamory (in style, not substance) in his stories.

There were also plot holes that needed to either be skimmed over if this was to be a fantasy, or actually explored if this was to be a fully plotted novel, but ended up having enough detail to pull attention to them, but not enough to actually explore them.

Despite all this, I do *like* the writing, and those that like different styles may like it more. It just missed the mark for me.
