It's Jewish inspired( cause it was written by Jewish Women) but, what the heck great food does not have a religion . If u like reading
Cook Books, the recipies have stories from the cooks and where they came from. It's the Cook Book u would take to Bed for reading.
Buy the Book for the Pavlova (an Australian Meringue and Fruit Dessert) and Cheese Blintzes recipie............serve these at Thanks Giving and your Family will hit the floor with thanks!!!!!! A great Cooks Book for your collection!!!!
It is easy to put together meals from this fantastic selection of recipes. Some standouts: the flourless chocolate cake, eggplant lasagna, Moroccan fish, and the hummus. I have tried to make hummus so many times before and just have never gotten it right, but this recipe produces the taste of freshly made hummus to rival any made in Israel. Another standout is the unusual roasted potato salad, which is a knockout side dish.
It is easy to flip to the back of the book and use the charts provided to make the conversions necessary to make these recipes using US measurements.
This has become one of my go to cookbooks for frequent use. I am looking forward to the next one from the Monday Morning Cooking Club!!
I do not agree with the other reviewers who have deducted stars because of hard to find ingredients. Just google it: beetroot are "beets"; vindaloo paste can be found in most curry sections;lime leaf - use one or buy dried kaffir lime leaves, etc. Also, every kitchen that has a standing mixer, should own a set of digital scales. Weighing gives far better results - every time!
It is also very professionally compiled - with the photography you sense that you are part of the club and cooking with them. Also, there are photographs of the food. The thank you page in the front of the book aptly illustrates the brains of professionalism that donated time to produce a book with an eclectic repertoire not found in many other cookbooks. This Australian production will be a good addition to any cookbook shelf in America (and the UK and all other Commonwealth countries.).
On the cooking side - I love the baking recipes that use olive oil as a norm - something new to me. When I start cooking these recipes, I will add more stores to this 5 star review.
A great introduction to cooking with Jewish recipes. I am buying more copies of this to give to my girlfriends with whom I meet for coffee every week!
