An essential reference on the history & meaning of money, it's role in the cycle of trade and war, patterns of wealth across generations and how they differ by wealth category, and the implications for your personal wealth building strategy.
Replace the limited vision of saving only for retirement with a generational wealth building plan.
Obtain 10% to 30% annual dividend returns with relative safety (compared to what's usually expected for such high rates) and finance your life with relatively less working capital - instead of liquidating your working capital just to live!
Guide your country or political party toward policies that allow such a plan to work, and away from instability that leads to war.
Gain understanding, using family backgrounds of 16 of the world's wealthiest people told in a narrative style with over 120 color illustrations. Examine connections between increases in productivity and the invention of money, corporations, trade and war. Learn about :
- The seven stage cycle of trade, money & war.
- How to know whom you can trust and collaborate with. Most wealthy people have significant networks of lifelong friends, deeper and more trusted than business associates, sales contacts, or social group friends.
- How to train and encourage your children in making friends and becoming knowledgeable about markets and investing and the policies that lead to wealth or war.
- Why relying on jobs is not destined to work as well in the future as it has in the past, and how to guide your family toward a more stable position in the world.
- Not just how to invest in broad index funds that capture long term market returns without worry about crises, but also how to get more dividends from them to meet expenses without giving up growth.
- How to select Exchange Traded Funds that will vote their shares more in line with your views on executive compensation, corporate governance, even social issues.
- The safest ways to generate high income when you need it.
- How to analyze an early retirement or buyout situation.
- What the historical record is on whether monetary unions or sanctions can avoid war?
- Whether liberal or conservative policies lead to peace, or both are part of the same cycle?

Review
"Money, Wealth & War is an interesting and educating read looking at the roles of money, wealth, trade, and war and its impact on our society today and in the past. Thescope of the book is not limited to individual investors; in fact, I found itto explore the world economy as a whole. Shuler's call to action reminds usthat the wealthy are the ones who make important decisions that affect our freedoms, policies and individual welfare. By the end of the book, you feel like it is yourduty and privilege to become a wealthier, more financially diverse American. Reading the book made me feel like I was introduced to the inside secret on how the world works." - Pacific Book Review

I am an avid reader of economic history and how money has helped develop the world in which we live. Schuler's book offered a great perspective on the confrontational side of this and does a good job of offering a practical viewpoint rather than a purely academic theory.
Beyond the historic context, I appreciated the personal finance side of the book. It starts off with the 'wealth' side of the book and argues the reader away from the retirement planning model in favor of a more rational generational wealth building strategy. The exercise to help determine a person's wealth building 'style' is particularly revealing.
I found the examples of 'paths' taken by highlighted wealthy individuals an interesting read. Not only are lessons made available as to what their experience means but it is just an interesting read, a mini-biography if you will.
The book does get a little technical at times but Schuler does a good job of explaining the math and wording specific to finance. Although the author claims to not express a political viewpoint or try to persuade readers to one side or another, there are some parts that guide the reader to a political opinion. None of it is particularly intrusive and doesn't detract from the larger picture the book makes.
The last two chapters, outlining a personalized weath building strategy and highlighting mistakes everyone makes are very good and not something you usually get with economic history books. It's the strength of the book that it can tie the economic and historic side in with a practical approach.

Money, Wealth and War discusses economic, political, and personal trends that contribute to an individual becoming wealthy. The links of trade and war, and the spending habits of the wealthy are example topics that are investigated.
While many of the strategies and insights in this book will work over the course of generations to ensure your billions in familial wealth (IE while you're too dead to enjoy being rich, and only if your family sticks to the same general plan/trends) its still interesting to see the collection of statistics and opinions on how families tend to be set up for prosperity by various means. The writing style is relaxed enough that the book never feels dry and boring, and I was more interested in the topic than I initially thought. I wouldn't use this as my sole reference to wealth and economic understanding, but it provides an interesting and entertaining viewpoint. Overall I enjoyed this book.

Ever wonder how our monetary policy developed over time? I mean a looonngg time? Author Robert Schuler gives a history of how money developed and influenced in trade and war. I’m a huge history buff and married to one of the rare (according to Schuler) men who has a degree in both economics and history, so this book was right up my alley. While I don’t profess to be an expert I found Schuler’s explanation intriguing, if a little academic for the uninitiated, but still really interesting. I think that applying it to personal finance is a bit of a stretch, although I loved the focus on building intergenerational wealth, as I think this is a sorely overlooked priority in most western mindsets. If you want your paradigm challenged and enjoy historical context don’t pass this one up!

This book starts off by stating that the masterminds of the world start wars and often that wealth is a contributing factor. This nearly turned me away from the book, but of course I couldnt simply just stop reading, I needed more information on how the author backed up this claim.
Im glad I kept reading, because it was more about getting the understanding needed to be able to become wealthy, but stay away from the instability of our economy, because THAT is was often leads to war.
I think everyone should read this book because it makes a lot of good points that shouldnt be ignored and are important to think about. If we were all a little more informed maybe we could all have a little more wealth and a little less war and a better economy.

Bravo, Robert! Brilliant, must have, well written reference for anyone that wants to understand how the world really works. Once you start reading you just can't put it down. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes mandatory reading at University social economics classes everywhere. I'm already looking forward to the author's next book.

I am thoroughly enjoying reading this book about money, its history and the people who have more than enough, how they achieved this and what they are doing with their wealth now that they have enough for food, shelter, clothing and health care which is, in my opinion, essential for survival. Plus there is only so much one can do with money and knowing how to handle it is so very important. One should be fugal, know that purchasing 'stuff' is not satisfying in any way, at least to me.
