I would recommend these to someone who is just learning to skate and is afraid of the wheels spinning too freely. Other than that, I would NOT recommend these.
They fit great, he normally wears a 13 or 1 and these will give him plenty of room to grow.
The wheels and bearings are nice enough that he can get decent speed.
The quality of these are decent enough that i'd recommend them to friends and purchase again if i had to
They're pretty well padded, and have decent softer wheels which work well on an indoor court. Not sure how well the wheels would hold up outside, neve tried them there... but i'd imagine they would do ok on asphalt and such, too.
the one thing i would complain about them is their weight... not obnoxiously heavy, but for really young kids, i can see them being a bit cumbersome (but again, my son never complained about this, so it's really just my thoughts on if i had to wear them... but i've been skating for over 35 years, and currently have a pair of high end Tour hockey skates that are actually lighter than these... so i'm a bit more picky about my skates...)
A plus for these skates is that the annoying and useless heel brake can be removed... the bolt that you remove when taking off the brake will now be too long to use again (unless you use washers or something), but there is an additional bolt that holds the brake pad to the brake housing thingy, and this bolt IS the correct size... not sure if they planned it that way, or if it's just a weird coincidence, but either way it works... so just swap bolts out, and no more annoying heel brake...
a final plus on these is they have flying flaming screaming skulls printed on them... which makes them even cooler if you're a 6 year old boy... for whatever that's worth...
overall a decent purchase that i would make again, and WAY better than most of the cheaper models you can find, that have those horrible plastic wheels that are basically worthless for skating on any surface...
