If this was biographical, it might hold some interest. But as a piece of fiction, it's cloying.

While there are some cliche character attitudes and thoughts, the story overall was cohesive and poignant. I looked forward to reading it and picking it up again every time I had to put it down. I've always been fascinated with priests and their worldview. I also can appreciate the negotiations that occur between two souls with distancing issues, defense mechanisms and heartbreak in their pasts. This definitely was a story of redemption and second chances. A feel-good read.

Very involuted theology and philosophy -- maybe more interesting to RCs. Thin plot, unsatisfactory ending; charming child, some other characters.

I loved this book. It made me laugh out loud in some spots. This author is every bit as good as Somerset Maugham. The characterizations are excellent, the dialogue and prose are witty, the story is heartwarming, and yet he tackles huge spiritual implications for all of us, so it delivers sustenance for the soul as well. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to sink into a book, heartily enjoy themselves and come away with some profound realizations.
