The only live album ever recorded during their original run, The Righteous Brothers did not disappoint me with their performance recorded in their hometown of Anaheim, California. The album's only problem is that the recordings were not mixed properly. The right track is louder than the left track in every one of the songs. Purchasers can fix the problem using a program like Audacity, but consumers should not have to correct problems like this themselves. Tracks should be properly balanced before an album release. Besides the mixing problem, the album should not disappoint Righteous Brothers fans. The album contains Bobby Hatfield's fourth live performance of Unchained Melody to ever be recorded. He did it better in his pink sport coat on The Andy Williams Show two years prior, but it is far better than any of his later performances. The duo also go on to sing medleys of other older songs that they never covered, and they even had some call-and-response fun with the audience. Every Righteous Brothers fan should have this in their collections.

BTW, the "original album" that this unlicensed CD was produced from is [[ASIN:B003DQETGO One For the Road / the Righteous Brothers / In Their Only Live Performance Recording]]. It was released by Verve in 1968 after the group went on hiatus from 1968-1974 and was never reissued in any other format. So you have a choice here: Original Vinyl, this unlicensed import CD, or nothing.
So whatever you decide put on your nehru jacket, break out those love beads and bell bottoms (or if you're establishment wing tips, sensible suit, tie and button down collar) and then step into the time machine - this album will take you right back to December 9, 1967* at the Anaheim Convention Center (the date and recording venue) and the preamble to the summer of love Righteous Brothers style.
I hope you dig it!
* Trivia point: On December 5th, 1967 Anaheim Mayor Pebley proclaimed December 7, 1967 "Righteous Brothers Day" in honor of this concert (see http://records.anaheim.net/CityClerk/0/doc/29310/Page1.aspx )

OK, so the mix isn't that great - the vocals are overmixed and the band undermixed - but since this is the only 1960's era Righteous Brothers live album available (I don't even know of any bootlegs from this period!) I'll take it. And despite the poor mix the superb performance really shines - despite the coming burn out these guys had really polished their act to a chrome finish at this point and it shows.

I wouldn't suggest this album to any casual Monkees fan. Some of it is pretty rough to listen to. HOWEVER, it's part of Monkees history, as it actually proved to the world that they COULD play their own instruments if they wanted to... But, they're about as rusty as a highschool band playing together for the first time. The charm of the album is that, at least its them ACTUALLY playing.
The screaming girls and lackluster recording, makes this album a "PASS" for casual Monkees fans. But for the BIG fans of the band, this is history, reissued on red vinyl, with extra tracks than the original release had.
The record was flat, but did have surface noise.

彼らは演奏できたのか?
Reviewed in Japan on September 13, 2010Verified Purchase
