The one that actually works

For testing purposes I have an Ortek MCK-142 Pro mechanical keyboard that is a favorite throughout my office. It is an AT model with a PS-2 output. In addition, I added an IBM KB-8923 and a Dell SK-8100, both ‘pure’ PS-2 keyboards. I want to use these on a modern desktop computer with 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports. In researching for a way to do it, I realized that there is a difference between an ‘adapter’, which is only a wiring solution and a ‘converter’ that has electronics to assist in making it work. The problem is that there are many brands and items available and no real way of knowing whether any or all of them will work. So I took the proverbial bull by the horns and bought one of each to try out. This resulted in ordering 9 items for a cost of about $77, not too bad for my purposes.
I purchased: USB TO DUAL PS2 Adapter Convertor – White by SaiTech IT; Monoprice PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse to USB Converter Adapter, Black (110934); Tripp Lite USB to PS/2 Adapter - Keyboard and Mouse (B015-000); TRENDnet USB 1.1 to PS/2 Converter, TU-PS2; Adesso PS/2 to USB Adapter, connects 2 PS/2 connectors to 1 USB port/hub (ADP-PU21 ); SANOXY USB to PS/2 Adapter (this one has wires); StarTech USB to PS/2 Adapter - Keyboard and Mouse; Radio Shack PS-2 Female to USB-A Port Adapter 26-723; and SANOXY PS2 Keyboard To USB Adapter (this one is a little block).
I tried them one by one. All were recognized on the USB Device Manager as a keyboard, yet all, but one, failed to allow the keyboards to be recognized and function.
The only one that worked perfectly for all 3 keyboards was the “SANOXY PS2 Keyboard To USB Adapter” – the one that is a little block. This being Amazon, I immediately returned the other 8 and ordered a bunch of the Sanoxy's. Thought you might find my experiment helpful.SANOXY PS2 Keyboard To USB Adapter

This works superbly. I lost (no idea how) the keyboard port on my motherboard, and since I use specialty (high tactile & auditory feedback) keyboards I couldn't just buy a cheesy USB keyboard. These things save the day - I've been using this since I bought it, and it's never skipped a beat. Works better, in fact, than the big fat specialized PS/2-to-USB dongle thing I owned before I bought this; the big fat one refused to permit a high key repeat rate, which this one is perfectly happy to accomodate. I ignore its mouse port, since I already have a USB mouse.

We got 2 of these, and while it basically works, the USB electronics leave something to be desired. They regularly disrupt the discovery of other USB devices, sometimes requiring you to unplug/plug it in order for other USB devices to be found and used. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. The biggest problem is with the BIOS USB stack on a lot of systems. The OS stacks (both Windows and LInux) seem to be less effected, but not completely immune. This is not the only make/model of such a device to suffer from this. We have at least six of these from various sources, and only 2 of them work flawlessly. But it works well enough to get by, maybe you have to unplug/plug it after booting a system, but once everything is working, then it stays that way until you reboot.

i have an older mouse and keyboard with PS/2 connections. i am using this to hook-up to my 2nd raspberry pi that i just got. it only takes up 1 usb port because you can use both the keyboard and mouse at the same time. that way if you need more usb's for other dongles such as wifi or flash drives you got 'em. genius...

Bought these to connect a bunch of new computers that don't have PS/2 support to an older PS/2 style KVM. Hooked these between the KVM cables and the computers and everything works perfectly.

Working with Windows 7, Windows 10, Ubuntu 16.04 and FreeNAS. No special drivers required, everything just works.

I also direct connected a PS/2 Keyboard (Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite) and a generic PS/2 mouse to an old Dell PowerEdge T05 with zero issues.

Works great. I read reviews before purchasing, so I learned a few tips on how to set it up properly. First plug in the adapter all by itself. Let your computer load the software, THEN plug in the keyboard. You also have to RESTART your machine before it will work.

I had inherited an older laptop and some of the keys wouldn't work, otherwise the laptop works just fine. This adapter is a small investment to make use of and old keyboard and a faulty laptop.

Recently bit the bullet and replaced my old xp pro, tower pc with a fully loaded Dell Inspiron 3847 mini tower. When I unpacked everything in the box, I realized that not only was the keyboard the smallest I have ever seen, it was also USB. My old IBM PC/XT series M keyboard that I loved, could not be used. Until, that is, when I found the Monoprice USB Converter, model #110934.
When it arrived, I turned off the PC, removed the toy keyboard, plugged in the Monoprice and re-booted.
The keyboard works perfectly and I can find no key combinations that don't work.
Finally, I can enter the Alt codes again.
If you have an old keyboard that you just can't live without, I highly recommend this converter.
