Great price to performance if you're willing to tinker.
So, after having this product since the end of October, I have some great things I’d like to say about it.Packing:Packaging is pretty spot-on, made of dense foam for shock resistance, unfortunately my extruder head came bent a bit but it’s nothing you can’t bend back into place, just something to be aware of. I’ve included photos in the gallery.Setup:Setup is basically putting the gantry and control box together with the included nuts, I’d recommend using your own Alan set as the included one is a bit too short to use normally. Once that’s complete, the wires are letter labeled to connect to the corresponding ends. Once ribbon cable connects the control box and the extruder assembly and you’re ready to get on with your test print. The manual is highly recommended for this part, but not for others as I’ll get into later on.Configuration:• Hatchbox PLA (Black, blue red)• Bed Temp: 50c• Extruder temp: 195c• Print speed: 80mm/s (Max 150mm/s)Pros:• Prints are excellent to say the least, there’s a low poly Charmander I’ve posted in the gallery and it’s flawless.• UI is easy to use due to the touch-screen; the assisted leveling feature under the tools setting is very convenient.• Accessories are plentiful, including a .4mm drillbit, extra buildtak-like material (this isn’t real buildtak but close), deadly sharp spatula, sample filament, USB cable and a 4GB memory card with the included Monoprice modified version of CURA, don’t delete it as I can’t find it anywhere else online.• Relatively quiet compared to other i3 clones, I wouldn’t have it in the same room but once you’re out it’s hard to hear.• Has no issue loading/unloading filament, although I would recommend using a filament filter with silicone oil if you’d like to extend the life of the extruder/hotend.• Haven’t tried any other filament with it yet like ABS or PETG, wouldn’t recommend ABS unless you have an enclosure for it since ABS needs the ambient temperature to be relatively warm. It’s a standard mk-10 extruder you shouldn’t have any issues with it.• Heated build plate works as advertised, maybe too well as it’s terribly easy to take off prints right after they’re complete with the included remover.Cons:• As stated by other reviews, the Z-limit switch will have to be moved one notch up as it collides with the bottom left nut of the tension wheels on the top of the build plate, even if the tension is completely turned.• Instruction manual leaves a lot to be desired in the later sections, as it’s blatantly show the wrong location to level the bed and for various other settings, I had to go through the UI on my own and try it out to figure out the various settings.• Power switch stopped working on me one day, took it apart to find out one of the terminals connecting the power port became unplugged.Although these are minor gripes, they’re important to list due to the improvement of quality control of the product.I’d easily recommend this product to someone who has been researching and doing their due diligence in 3D printing to know enough to get started, not someone who knows nothing about the concept and just wants to print.Hope you find this helpful.

I was waiting for the Taz 7 to be released since it has been a year and a half since the Taz 6. I decided to get a "cheap" printer instead but I am glad I chose this one.

I had the machine together in about 20 minutes including unboxing. Put the machine on a flat surface and the tower will sort of self align (use a right angle to make sure it is 90 degrees), put the four screws in, connect the motor cables (which are labeled!) and DO NOT forget to connect the black ribbon cable from the extruder to the base! (The manual does not mention this). I leveled the Z axis by spinning the motor shafts until I could loosely wiggle a circuit board under each side. The initial height does not matter, only that the rods are level.

Tighten EVERYTHING including the set screws on the X axis rods. Mine came loose and my Z axis would not home. If you are having Z axis issues unscrew the belt, loosen the X axis rods then wiggle them to realign them then put everything back together.

To level the bed, home the Z axis with the four screws on the bed at the lowest position (so it does not strike the bed). Use the Tools -> Move command to place the nozzle at the four corners of the black print surface. Use a business card inbetween the nozzle and the bed then turn the screw until you just feel friction on the business card. The built in home function misses the back left corner for some reason.

Loading filament is easy, just cut a small piece off at 45 degrees to prevent clogs, place the filament into the extruder by pressing the black lever until it stops. Use the load filament command until a little filament oozes out. Unloading is pretty similar, heat it up and use the unload command to remove it.

The included sd card includes a few models and I was able to just barely print 3 of them with the included sample filament. I think they are set to be high precision to impress the user - they take about 2-3 hours to print but do come out very well.

I am using Solidworks to generate my STL files but you may want to head over to Thingiverse to grab some premade stuff. This is where the fun begins - slicing. There are several slicers in free, freemium, online, and paid. I prefer Cura since it is simple and works. Slic3r is a good alternative. If you have a Raspberry Pi then you can try Octoprint (Incredibly easy to get running by the way). There is also Simplify3D but I do not recommend it since it cost $150 for two installations and requires you to log in to use the desktop program (good luck when their servers go down). Slicers are a whole different topic but if you chose Cura, you can use the Prusa i3 (which this unit is based off of) or you can add your own printer and specify a 200x200 and 180 height bed with a 0.4mm nozzle and 1.75mm filament with a rectangle bed that is heated. The included Cura version on the SD card is outdated and I believe you can import the included gcode to generate a modern cura profile.

Once you are confident in the machine then find a better Spool holder, filament cooling fan shroud, Z axis brace then your prints will turn out much better. The stock spool holder can jerk when feeding and cause Z axis artifacts while the stock filament fan shroud isn't directed enough. After those mods then you can start looking into adding a better Y axis plate, different print surfaces, and so on. The Select Plus is a 24v model, so if you upgrade the fan then be sure to use a 24v fan. You might also have to perform searches for the Wanhao duplicator i3 to find upgrade parts.

This machine is for tinkerer's so I did not mind having to play around with the X axis rods and can't count that against the machine. I did contact Monoprice support via their website chat and they told me they would send a replacement but I needed to do it though Amazon. I sent them an email but have not heard a response (it has been almost a week). The print quality out of the box is great, it has a large build surface, and was very easy to get running (including with octopi). Overall I think this is a great printer for the price range. It does not have the fancy features like auto leveling or dual extruders but this will satisfy the average hobbyist needs.

So, I don't write reviews for products because typically I don't really care enough. But this purchase has made me the saddest. When I got it it, it had printed exactly 1 thing before it completely went out. I had set it up to specifications and had gotten help for it as well. It printed one thing really well and I was so excited, but shortly thereafter it didn't print a single thing again. Every time I tried it wouldn't stick to the hot plate, or the springs that keep it level would just slip loose and the plate would be out of whack again, and the nozzle would consistently jam.
I didn't have the time or energy to keep playing with it to get it to work (which I spent the better part of a year trying to fix) so I gave up and sold it with the exception that they can return it to me if they can't fix it. I managed to sell it to a guy who worked with similar tech and he said he was more than happy to give it a shot. After replacing the nozzle, the plate, and a few other components (That I can't remember what), he called the tech support and their answer was something along the lines of, "Send it in and we will fix it for the price of buying a brand new one again". So he obviously returned it to me having only lost out on money.
I would honestly say this was one of my biggest mistakes in purchasing this unit, I highly recommend against it, although if you have better luck than I then I am happy for you. If nothing else I wish I could get my money back even though I know it isn't possible, just sad to see a ~$300 paperweight.

I've owned this printer for a couple months now. The research I put into this purchase was killing me, there are so many to choose from of many different qualities and suppliers. I would definitely say that Reddit gave me a "filter-free", no bull* idea of what I'd be getting. And it was pretty much just that. A "turn-key" printer that will work out of the box with basic common sense, in very little time. You just have to get over the quirks. One big thing to note, I read some scary reviews about earlier models smoking/catching fire due to a design flaw when printing at a high bed temp (in ABS). I believe they fixed it because I have not experienced anything like that, thank god. However, I still only run 80 degrees max on the bed just in case (when printing ABS). In general, there is definitely a learning curve with these printers. I have experience with machining, g-code, and engineering but there was still plenty to overcome.

Here is my lists of complaints:

1.) Clogging, which was fixed with a quick google search and look through the manual. This can happen to any printer, but the supplied "drill bit" instantly broke in the nozzle and caused a bit of a headache
2.) Calibration: Due to the floppy Z axis tower (which is kind of an overlook in design, the whole printer doesn't sit flat as if something is missing), but can be solved by printing the fix itself, lol. It's called the "Z brace fix". Keep in mind this printer is a rebranded Wanhao Duplicator, when looking for this fix. However, I temporarily used a folded face towel to fill the gap. Despite this ghetto fix I have been able to maintain calibration for quite a while.
3.) Axis jogging: When jogging the Z axis (or any of them), be careful not to press the button so many times that the printer crashes into itself and tweaks the alignment between the two spiral tower gears. (CRINGE)
4.) Interface: related to above, is "translated" and quirky. The axis jogging could be much better instead of the one at a time "beep, beep, beep", which if you press a bunch of times will stack up the "presses" causing the axis to take off without anyway to tell when it will stop. It appears they got this right on the previous model, and screwed it all up on this one. This printer is lacking certain fail-safes, but like I said a little common sense should keep you out of trouble, as well as learning the hard way!
5.) Bed Surface: Another complaint is the "mouse pad" bed seems to melt/warp in the shape of certain objects you might print, very quickly too. I believe it is just heat concentration when printing skinny parts. The printer comes with an extra pad, but as with most printers it is wise to switch to a glass bed for repeatable and accurate prints.
6.) The screen: One final thing, I wish the screen could be angled up somehow so I don't need to kneel down every time to set up the machine.

Final summation, I still give it 4 stars because once you "learn how to drive" this machine it is very much usable and a great value for what it can do. Also, the software it comes with is pretty well done. I have attempted other programs but wasn't happy with certain aspects, and also the fail-safe of running a program that knows how to adjust for your exact printer model. Only complaint is there are no adjustable settings for bridging operations.

    Some pointers:
-Thingiverse is your friend when it comes to ready to print objects, most things i've wanted to make have already been done on there, and it also gave me some great ideas of what to print
-Elmers extra strength glue stick is the best way to make sure your print sticks to the bed.
-Do not preheat the printer and then proceed to a 4 point bed calibration. Calibrate it first or cool it down. You risk touching the hot nozzle to the mouse pad bed and melting this plastic to the extruder, which can be a real pain to unclog.

As this is my First 3D printer, I have nothing to compare it to. I have owned it for little over a month. I must stay it is a really nice first printer. The Setup was not as simple as they claim, but most of that is due to the poorly written manual. Once up and running I had to adjust the z-axis stop and add some washers to the build plate. I then learned that applying a thin layer of Adhesive to the built plate solved the adhesion issue I have been having. Now that I have it running smoothly I'm really happy with it. It prints really nice, the machine is fairly quiet. The software that it runs off is easy to use. The Printer is very well built. I would highly recommend it as a first printer or as a production machine.
Pros- Easy to use interface, large print area for price range, wide range of filaments, quiet,
    Cons- Poorly written manual,

10/10, excellent entry product. Could not recommend more for the aspiring 3D printer out there.

While yes, this is a tad expensive for us Canadians, this is still an incredibly affordable 3D Printing solution and is capable of printing extremely fine detail (as well it's fully customizable and upgradable if you want to head that route). There is tons of support through the Facebook, Reddit, and Thingiverse communities and it's only getting better and better as time passes.

If you're interested in 3D Printing this is the one.

One thing I would add is that the fans it comes with act like they are made of Chinesium. It seems like it has broken after a few prints. The good news is that the fans aren't exactly hard to replace but I figured it's worth mentioning.

I have printed about 80 hours on this printer. This is my 4th printer and my 3rd Monoprice. Printer has worked every time. I have changed the nozzle twice (because I wanted a different size) and it was simple. I use Amazon's PETG on glass. I use the bed at its maximum rated 70C and the nozzle at 235C. The noise level is low. I recommend this printer.
