This is precisely what I wanted.
I have a very large house, with ceiling speakers throughout the house. I have separated the system into different "zones", each with it's own receiver, but I wanted to use this to link one system to the other, so I could play the same music throughout the entire house, when I choose. In order to do this, I needed this unit to convert the optical output, from the back of one receiver, to an RCA digital input in the back of a receiver via an approximately 100-foot cable that I had made by soldering male RCA jacks to each end of Cat5 networking cable. I was concerned that the unit may not have enough output power to get a strong enough signal at the other end of such a long cable, but it works perfectly. Now I can play music in the more formal rooms and play different music in the other rooms, OR have the same music throughout the house, yet maintain separate volume controls for the different zones.
This replaces an old "network" streaming system that did not work as well and suffered from had buffer delays.
Bottom line: This is exactly what I wanted and works exactly as I had hoped.
So this worked perfectly for that need --> Convert Toslink Optical to Coaxial.
I get perfect Dolby Digital 5.1 through it.
I have one complaint ...the power adapter. It is oriented for the bottom plug on a wall outlet look at the picture), not power strips (which I have to use behind entertainment systems). I wish they would have used a sideways narrow power adapter that would allow it to be plugged into any slot in a power strip (not just the valuable end one). Also, the power adapter male end does not fully plug into the converter, leaves a few mms (1/8") showing.
So I bought a UPS for my system thinking FOR SURE THIS WILL WORK. Nope. The converter, the studio source, AND my active speakers were tied into the UPS, and still my speakers would pop and drop when I turned on a fan and etc...
One day I decided to unplug the input signal and try popping my speakers with no input. First thing I noticed was that the noise floor for the converter was high because as I unplugged, the silence from white noise was very noticeable. Curious. I proceeded to flip switches around the apartment, and surprise, no pops!
I ordered some 1/8 to 1/4 mono cables to plug into my speakers instead, and tada! Pops and drops gone!
I suspect this converter would've worked well with some lower powered speakers, but for my system, the tolerances weren't to par. At the end of the day, it worked, but not well with my system.
So enter this device. I simply plugged in the PS4 Pro's optical into one end and a coax cable into the other and and plugged that into my receiver and I had DD5.1 sound from the PS4 Pro.
The construction could be better as it is made of cheap plastic from China, but it does the job.
The delivery from the source was well within the time-frame specified at purchase, and I would've rated the product five stars had it been useable in my application. The company was prompt in issuing an RMA number and issuing a refund.
What to do?
The Optical Toslink to Coaxial (RCA) Digital Audio Converter was just what I needed.
It took all of 5 minutes to install and half of that time was moving the furniture to get at the cable connections behind the home theater cabinet and unpacking the box that the device was mailed in.
Review summary: Works as advertised!
