Banana plugs make speaker installation a breeze. They are designed for use with amplifiers or speakers that use traditional binding posts. Not only is it easier to make the connection on the back of your amp, it is safer, with no chance of stray wire strands creating a short across contacts. These high quality plugs are the closed screw type and can accept bare wire or spades. They are sized to fit speaker wire from 12 to 18 AWG. Each pair comes with one plug color coded red and the other coded black, for easy polarity identification. The plug body is made of brass, which is then plated with gold to help prevent corrosion and ensure smooth connections.

When purchasing banana plugs one needs to ensure that he/she is buying a set that can accommodate the size of the speaker wire and that the plug will work in their receiver, speakers, etc. Then the user has to choose between the types available, primarily closed screw or open screw. This pair is closed screw meaning that the speaker wire is held in place as the result of folding wire strands over the base and then closed by simply hand tightening the plug section. This is opposed to open screw types where either simple compression or a tiny set screw is used to hold the speaker wire in place. Both types are simple and the user has to decide what their preference is.
Since this is a single pack (i.e., two plugs, one for positive and other for negative) there really is no need for instructions as the purchaser probably is using this as a replacement or addition to an existing stereo set up. If needed, Monoprice does have a pdf file of instructions with photos at [...]
These worked for my current setup and were to replace a pair of banana plugs for one end of a single piece of speaker wire where the tips/plugs of the previous plugs somehow were lost while in storage.
The way that they work is there is a piece on the bottom that unscrews, you then stick the pre-stripped wire through this and spread the wire kind of like a flower over the outside of the bottom piece, all while trying to avoid getting the wire on the threads. Then you screw it back into the top piece and you are on your way.
It took a youtube video for me to understand how to use them, but once I realized what to do they have been such a convenience.
I would recommend these to anyone who has surround sound hooked into a receiver and doesn't have the easiest accessibility to the receiver where it is going to be setup. They plug in just like av plugs.
The one issue I have had with these particular banana plugs is that sometimes the piece that plugs into the receiver gets unscrewed and makes the connection loose.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
The manufacturer should have preplated the item with an intermediate Nickel layer to prevent this problem from developing in the field...
By the way, it'll hold verrrrry lose within the shorter, more shallow jacks. This is to be half expected....there just isn't that much to sink into. However on my amp there are the deeper jacks and even though it hold "ok", it is not that solid. Not that it would fall out, just has a slight "wiggle" quality to it.
I believe this to be the difference between truly higher end plugs and these.
Further, the coating will quickly shear off on your fingers (I think I got a [metal] splinter still in my finger from it) when clamping down the screw.

This multi-pack includes one pair of plugs, perfect for connecting the speakers in a channel setup.
Highly recommended and I plan to buy some more in the future.
