Working OK so far - Uses Fresco Logic chipset

I have only used it for a day so will update review after more use. The card that I received uses the Fresco Logic chipset which i am starting to prefer over the Renesas chipset. Logic would dictate that the Renesas chipset *should* be better, so either Renesas dropped the ball, or the card makers using the Renesas chipset are not implementing something properly in the driver or hardware design because I have had nothing but problems with them.

Most of these USB 3.0 cards will give you trouble at one time or another with not being recognized by your system, usually after going to sleep. To fix this, you'll need to go into your windows power settings and disable USB selective suspend. You should also go into device manager and disable selective suspend for the USB 3.0 hub device shown there, if this option exists on your PC.

I am now going to experiment with ways to keep this thing stuck in the expresscard port so that it doesn't come out every time I insert/remove a USB cable :)

Bought this for my Thinkpad T520. Fits flush with the ExpressCard 34mm port.

Marginally faster than eSATA, but certainly a whole lot faster than USB 2.0

BE WARNED: Most USB devices will find its socket a bit too tight for easy insertion/removal, so hear me close: Insert your cable/USB device first to this, and THEN insert the USB-to-ExpressCard device into the ExpressCard port. Doing so will lessen the chance of the device being yanked off the port (it push-locks into place but doesn't really hold it at all).

I did not use the CD, as I have allocated the CD/DVD-writer Ultrabay port with another hard drive for the purpose of hosting VMware images. To install the drivers, a quick search of "FLUSB3.0-3.5.73.0.exe" on your favourite search engine should suffice.

This provides the USB 3.0 port but does not provide sufficient power to power transfer of files on a portable drive that is powered from USB. It works fine for file browsing browsing but as soon as higher power requirements are needed for file transfer and such (powering a portable drive during high usage), it disconnects the device. I believe the answer is to purchase a Y-cable that takes the power from an additional USB source (port or plug adapter) and combines it with the power from the port on this card in the USB 3.0 cable so that an external device requiring power has sufficient power for use.
After some research, I am looking to try these two items:

Cannot power an external SDD

First of all, this card gets warm, this means burning battery. Second, the card cannot power an external drive not even an external SSD. Well the seller does not wrote that the card is suitable for external drives, but he also does not mention that it isn't. I should have read the reviews, first. And to drive now the mouse sender/receiver is a bit overkill. If you own a self powered USB 3 device then the card might be an option.

USB 3 cardbus for Vostro 1700/1720 works

I tried several different products, all those w/ Renesas chips didn't work. This one does out the box on Windows 10 and Linux Fedora 24 both 64-bit ... 87 MB/s transfer from 1.5 TB WD My Passport to SSD and no Y-split cable needed! Flush so I keep it in always. To avoid it popping out when you unplug the external drive, just push on it as you pull the drive cable out (duh).

This card works pretty well but sometimes the little metal flaps get caught and it's difficult to remove the card from the ExpressCard34 slot.
It was also a bit of a bugger to find the right driver, but eventually did thanks to a bit of googling and other people's reviews.

Best solution if you dont have USB 3.0 port in your laptop

It's a very good product. My laptop doesn't come with USB 3.0 ports. And this was the best way to address the issue. It works great by effectively utilizing my unused Slot. I saved money by ordering it through Amazon other than getting out from monoprice.
