A book you can read in one sitting--not a bad thing--with a quick introduction to GMO foods and the part MONSANTO plays in the nations bread basket. Monsantos abusive tactics will unnerve you. Remember DDT? A Monsanto product finally after a public health cry-- taken off the market. The books first chapter <Getting to Know Monsanto, Its Products and Its Policies> gives you an understanding of its money makers including ROUNDUP herbiside and ROUNDUP READY SEEDS. These products should unnerve you as well including Bt SEEDS, which sprout crops that are genetically engineered to produce their own insectiside. These are GMO foods that go into your mouth and down to your stomach. Can you imagine! An important chapter is<How To Avoid GMO Food> This should surprise you;the
everyday foods that are GMO grown. The best health rule for everyone is to buy foods labeled-- !00% Organic-- in Europe buy--NON GMO. I did not give this book five stars because I would have liked to see information on people who had their health comprimised because of GMO
foods. This book is well worth the money. I bought the paper back, however you can read it on Kindle. Other books on Amazon cover the health issues of GMO foods as well.

Excellent basic information in a readable, interesting and well-documented short book.
Those wishing to learn more about genetically engineered foods in depth might wish to read Altered Genes, Twisted Truth by Steven Druker.

It was too short but it was a great introduction into the world of GMO foods! I am newbie and trying to wean my family off these super foods! Shame on the US government for being so blinded by greed.

I give this book an 8/10. Its a fun subject that seems a bit cliche, yet the author includes mind blowing findings; that in America critics would deem "conspiracy theories".

Although the writing is often vague, the book has alot of information. It is a worthwhile read,
sufficiently informative to send out a strong warning to all of us that Monsanto is poisoning our crops and
has strong Washington backup in the FDA, and the USDA. Very disheartening.
As they say, "it's all about money." Organic is the only way to go.

Yikes! This book scared the pants off me! If everything Mr. Louv says is true, we're in real trouble with our food supply. I tend to believe the real truth is somewhere in the middle between his claims and Monsanto's, but this definitely gave me something to think about, and I will definitely pay even MORE attention to the food I buy for my family.

A good read. More books should be like this one - inexpensive and fact rich, and only as long as they need to be (about 40 pages before many pages of extensive notes and references).

Subjective and emotive - there is no doubt as to Jason Louv's view of GM!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 11, 2015Verified Purchase
It's written in an extremely subjective manner unfortunately, which for me calls into question most of the information it gives. For example, the book says that dozens of people suffered serious effects from the 2000 StarLink discovery in taco shells, including 'anaphylactic shock' - but when you actually research it yourself you find that 51 people reported side effects only after they were told about the presence of StarLink, and of those only 28 were deemed possibly related ... further tests by the CDC on the blood of these individuals came up with no evidence to draw a link at all. Emotive language is used throughout - 'blasting genes', 'bacteria', 'toxic' (as if toxicity doesn't exist in the natural world), crops 'may' be found to be extremely dangerous in the future (although he provides no evidence that they are now) etc. It's a shame there isn't a balanced book about this, which is the reason I read this one - as long as you realise every sentence is designed to make you think negatively about anything genetically modified, it's a good starting point to do your own research. Just don't take what you read as fact, because it isn't unfortunately. I do find it mildly offensive that such subjective language is used to steer me to a view, as if I wouldn't be aware I was being led. I do hope other readers are able to be aware of this, and do some further reading, unfortunately the objective science is mainly online. Don't take Jason's view as factual - do your own research.

Shows the "World Food Prize" awarded to Monsanto as the shame it is
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 9, 2013Verified Purchase
This is a fair book - a journalist looks at the history of Monsanto and of GMOs. It doesn't answer what I think is a puzzling question - if you can't patent something that occurs naturally, how can you patent a genetically modified seed and claim that the resulting crop is no different from the naturally occuring crop. It does highlight, though, the lack of safety testing.

Umfangreich und objektiv trotz weniger Seiten
Reviewed in Germany on April 21, 2014Verified Purchase
Empfehlenswert!
