*(Reader's Favorite Reviews) Fast-paced and exciting, the novel "Monster" by Ben Burgess Jr. is an entertaining read. The story unravels quickly because of a writing style that is both crisp and vivid. The author's use of realistic dialogue should not fail to engage the reader. Reading this book is also like taking a glimpse of what is behind a man's vulnerability. It compels the reader to look deeper and try to understand why people behave the way they do.
*(UBAWA Magazine) Monster is everything I thought it was going to be - fast paced, suspenseful, and full of page-to-page action and drama. I couldn't help but get tempted by the mesmerizing vibrations of Ben's words as he took me by surprise with one sensual treat after another. It kept me turning the pages, looking for more. Monster is dope and a very relaxing, yet stimulating read. I couldn't believe I finished it all in one sitting! Rating 5 stars
* (Blue Ink Review)This is a skillfully developed tale with likeable characters, including the broken Ferguson,a well-paced plot and pitch-perfect dialogue.
* (By Sweet Georgia Press) Monster, by Ben Burgess Jr, is a coming-of-age story. This debut novel, which reads like an autobiography, exposes Ken's vulnerabilities at its core. The story was at once thought-provoking, revelatory and groundbreaking. Not since Michael Baisden's, Men Cry In The Dark, have I read a book that truly captures the vulnerability of men. While there is no excuse for the character's brazen deeds, the book explores human weakness and how it can often lead to the reckless behaviors exhibited in many men (and women).
