This is my 4th Monster High doll...as well as my 2nd version of Ghoulia. This doll has slightly lighter lipstick (the other version has blood red lips) painted on and the makeup is more subtle than the other Ghoulia dolls. She is dressed in white pajamas that have a blood-splatter print and she is wearing a black miniskirt over the leggings. She has an eye mask to match the PJ's. Her glasses are a 1950's horn rim style in bright red. Each version of Ghoulia has slightly different glasses.

Two VERY cute and hilarious details: Ghoulia comes with fuzzy looking (plastic) red monster slippers and the monsters on the shoes are wearing (painted) horn-rimmed glasses too. And a box of "Brain Puffs" which somewhat resembles red popcorn. I found the Brain Puffs really funny. As every horror movie fan knows, zombies eat brains! Ghoulia's bio claims she likes fast food but apparently she can't resist the occasional brain food! This is just one of the many funny ways that Monster High pays tribute to old horror films.

I have heard some parents commenting that Monster High dolls look "scary" and "creepy" or whatever. I encourage parents to check out the Monster High webisodes online. For those who don't know, all the students are supposed to be the children of famous movie monsters. In spite of being monsters, the characters face many normal problems that kids, teens (and some grownups) can probably relate to. The characters also embrace their differences and quirks. Ghoulia in particular is a very well written character. She isn't a nerd who gets bullied or teased...Instead she is a cool "nerd" who is smart and well liked. The cartoons are not meant to be dark or scary. They are cute, fun and actually have some positive messages for kids.

Quick lowdown:

Clothing and shoes: Easy to get on and off; stay put. Jammies have a blood splatter print; slippers sport a monster visage.

Sleep mask: Can be snipped off of head. Hairstyle will become a bit looser when this action is performed, so if you are picky, do not do so.

Glasses: Will not stay on doll's face as snug if the mask is removed (tight hairdo helps them stay in place; see above).

Brain Puffs: Doll's snack of choice. Just wish the container was made of plastic, not cardboard.

Sweet little reasonably priced gal to clutch while watching a zombie movie marathon.

*Update (6/30/12): Lately I read a review on one of the MH "Create-a-Monster" kits. While viewing a comment on said review, the commenter stated that MH dolls' ears can be pierced with a thumbtack. I decided to go for it. Here is the data:

-Experiment on a dorky doll first. I chose a Barbie mermaid.

-I discovered that the above doll's ears were pre-pricked, which made it easy to find the target- the lobe. Same goes for MH dolls that do not have pierced ears, such as this Dead Tired Ghoulia.

-A giant thumbtack is perfect for chimps like me. The tack was pushed in with ease, but alas, even with its bigger size as a should-work-beautifully factor, the hole it made was very tiny, and MH earrings would not fit. Even violently pushing the tack at every angle did nothing to enlarge the hole. A big, punk rock safety pin did nada, and a bobby pin end was too big to be of any help.

-This is where I sought out my husband, as we do not put the AC on, and I get lazy in excessive heat. He decided to use a ballpoint pen as his instrument.

My daughter just loves Monster High dolls. She plays with them s lot, but the problem with that is this much play wears on the doll's joints. They begin to fall apart easily with simple play. So, she no longer redresses them as this requires the removal of the hands in most cases. I think as popular as these dolls are, the quality should be improved.

She is so cute! Her little pjs match her so well, it looks like polka dots but if you look closely it's tiny little blood spots. The only thing I don't like is that her eye cover is attached to her head... so I keep her glasses off so she doesn't look silly.

we do have a large collection of these dolls. this is one of the first ones I had a slight complaint about.her head seemed soft so when they put her glasses and hair style in it kind of flattened her head.I called Mattel and got a replacement certif. this has not happened very often to us and we do collect a few different lines.

Very nice Ghoulia, 'makeup' not harsh. Her hair is soft & styles easily. Outfit is super cute! I took the red glasses off & put on an extra white pair I had - looks good. Worth the money & a nice addition to my Ghoulias!

These dolls are the new take on the Barbie. They are edgy and cool for young girls who think they have outgrown the barbie but still want a barbie-like substitute. I got this for my niece as a Christmas present and she loved it. The hands are fragile and she does not stand on her own (she does come with a little plastic stand) but if you don't expect her to be a long-term durable toy then you will be satisfied with the purchase. She does what she is intended to do, provide hours of dress up play and hair styling for young girls.
