Went to the theatre to watch this movie in 2005 when if first came out because it was the luminous and extraordinary Jane Fonda's return to acting after her "retirement" in 1991. How could you not? She delivers the goods in this tour-de-force comedic turn and practically chews up the set pieces in the process. Jennifer Lopez does her best, and she's very likable, but she's no Jane Fonda. Still, you have to give her props for taking this role opposite a legend. As for Michael Vartin: was he in the movie? It hardly matters. With La Fonda and La Lopez on screen as the stars, supported by La Sykes, no one else in the cast mattered. The WOMEN carry this film as they should.
I can't watch this movie often enough. The comedic chemistry between Jennifer Lopez and the iconic Jane Fonda leaves me on the floor laughing through the entire movie. Lopez is a "temp" dog walker, fashion designer, caterer, etc. She falls head-over-heels for a cardiologist who keeps bumping into her. After they start dating, enter Jane Fonda, his mother, and her personal assistant played by Wanda Sykes. No woman is good enough for Fonda's son and every possible scheme is contrived to destroy the relationship. This movie is just good fun with hilarious antics throughout. I highly recommend this movie for lots of great laughs from a stellar cast as well as a feel-good ending.
OMG. If you have not seen this movie you need to. This movie is hysterical and so funny to watch. Jlo and Jane fonda knock the plot right out of the park. If you have problems with in laws this movie will keep you on your toes. However, dont resort to the revengeful ways Jane fonda does. I would say Jlo who plays charlie does excellent in handling her mother in law, but has a hard time getting there and has to constantly compete with her childish controlling ways of her son. It would make enough for any bride to be to become a runaway bride. But to get to the ending you will just have to watch this movie.
I very much enjoyed seeing Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda in the same movie. Personally Jane never impressed me when she was young, but she has aged exceptionally well. I've never seen her look better than in a few of the scenes in this movie. Her strength as a mature woman is undeniable.
Jennifer Lopez is an amazing, multi-talented woman and her character in this movie reflected some of that. Basically a very upbeat and energetic person with a lot of inner strength and integrity.
The problem — Jane's character is so over done. Not even close to realistic. Marie in Everybody Loves Raymond was a believable Monster-in Law. Viola in this movie was just crazy and unstable.
The male lead was just vanilla and that would have been OK if Jane's character was more realistic.
It’s Jane Fonda, J. Lo, Michael Vartan, and Wanda Sykes. Watch it with your eyes so you can laugh. Why is it that I have never enjoyed her music and she’s never appealed to me as a person, but her movies are the best? I feel like acting is supposed to be her side gig and it’s way better than her original claim to fame.
I loved this movie. Sure it is predictable, but it was funny and each time I see Jennifer Lopez in a movie, I'm not disappointed. While she'll never win an Oscar, she can make you laugh. She's pretty and she has good timing. Jane Fonda makes a departure from her previous efforts. She's also not bad, but for an actress of her calibre, maybe it was a little low for her (whilst also fitting the role pretty well). As for Michael Vartan ... well he's just hot. Really nice looking and you kind of felt sorry for him to have lived with his mum all his kid life.
Go and see this with an open mind and you'll like it. Especially if you love romantic comedies. This is funny and a general feel good movie you'll want to watch again and again.
THIS IS HILARITY AT ITS BEST.WITH JENNIFER LOPEZ AND JANE FONDA UNITED,THE MOVIE COULDN'T HELP BUT BE A WINNER.I MADE A FEW COMMENTS ABOUT THIS MOVIE WHEN I DID MY WRITE-UP FOR ANOTHER OF JENNIFERS MOVIES....."LOST IN THE WILD". THESE TWO MOVIES ARE LIKE CHALK AND CHEESE.....YOU WOULD EAT ONE BUT NOT THE OTHER.L.I.T.W. IS ONE OF THE WORST AND PATHETIC MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN WHILE M.I.L IS ONE OF THE BEST.YET, J-LO IS IN BOTH MOVIES. I HAVE A FEELING THAT L.I.T.W. MUST HAVE BEEN ONE OF HER FIRST EVER MOVIES WHEN SHE MAY WELL HAVE ACCEPTED ANY RUBBISH THAT CAME ALONG, JUST TO GET HERSELF STARTED.DON'T GET ME WRONG, J.LO HAS MADE A LOT OF GOOD AND GREAT MOVIES.BUT, IN MY OPINION, FOR FIRST CLASS ENTERTAINMENT.....AND A LOT OF DAMN GOOD LAUGHS.....NEITHER J.LO NOR J.F. MAY NEVER MAKE ANOTHER MOVIE LIKE THIS. SO, TAKE MY SUGGESTION, BUY THIS MOVIE.....YOU'LL L-O-V-E IT.I PROMISE.
This is such a funny film. Its also good that my hubby likes to watch it too,,, Its such a feel good movie although at times I must say it can be true to life...Mums and their sons... Can be hard work some times...lol
I really enjoyed this movie as it had a very familar real life storyline about the 'horrible in-laws' and made it into something to laugh about. Jane Fonda gives a brilliant performance about the over protective and dramatic mother who wont let her son go. But i think that the actress who completely steals the movie is Wanda Sykes, i thought that her character was bloody hilarious, coming out with quotes such "I think you dislocated my vag**a" (best line btw) LOL!! Overall i would say don't trust the negative reviews yoou see about this film as i think that most of them are complete rubbish.
