"Monster Mayhem is a picture storybook that is sure to delight young children."
- Readers' Favorite Book Reviews - 5 stars
"Billy has monsters living under his bed. They are constantly up to mischief, but do not speak at all. These monsters have greedy appetites, and they know just where to go for the yummy foods they like to gobble...All they do is create messes and, regrettably, Billy's toys have to clean up after them. Sometimes the monsters leave, which makes everyone happy until new ones appear with their luggage. Would you believe that the dumbest one even has a pet log and is fond of crossword puzzles?
...a short bedtime story that is lively with fun, upbeat rhymes...Apart from the story, the author included a game called P.D. Monkey's Nibbled Cookie Challenge. Its objective is to have kids spot the hidden cookie on each page. There are also cool puzzles (and) free activity packs...brightly sketched illustrations that will catch the attention of young readers...a lovely children's book."
About the Author
Melinda Kinsman lives on a small peninsular called The Wirral, in North West England. She loves climbing mountains and rock-climbing (both abroad, and in her local mountains of Snowdonia), and she has always had a soft-spot for cuddly toys!
As Melinda has to lie down a lot each day, due to health issues, she spends most of that time using her iPad to write and illustrate her books. (Drawing can be especially challenging, as she needs to keep the iPad steady by balancing it with one leg up in the air - much to the amusement of her family!)
Melinda originally wrote a book of poems for her 6 year old niece a few years ago, but never dreamt of trying to publish them, or of trying to illustrate them herself. The advent of ebooks and handheld tablets now makes self-publishing an exciting possibility for her!
The Top of the Wardrobe Gang series of books are credited to both Melinda and a motley crew of cuddly toy characters. This bunch of cuddly toys live on the Top of the Wardrobe - they like to call this the "penthouse suite"! They enjoy reading, and want to try writing their own books. Most of the cartoon gang characters are based on "real" members of Melinda's cuddly toy family.

In this charmer of a book Melinda directs her rhyming stories and pictures to the age 3 - 7 readers. And as any fine mistress of ceremonies she first introduces her characters Old Soc, a member of the wardrobe gang and P.D, Monkey and of course Billy who has monsters who live under his bed. The monsters gather, label Billy's bed as their Den - a deed that makes buster the dog bark. The monsters nap during the day and cause problems with all the cuddly toys. One monster has a pet log and cuts out the crossword puzzle form the paper. A purple monster likes to knit socks, a green monster is deaf, the friendly monster always wants food, the blue monster takes long showers, the red monster bakes cakes and leaves a mess, and so on. The monsters are a messy problem gang.
Easy to read, fun to observe, the monsters are hilariously naughty. At books end Melinda offer learning games that are fun and very fine teaching lessons. In all this is a book children will love - for many reasons. Grady Harp, February 15
The Top of the Wardrobe Gang is back, with a humorous, rhyming solution to many common mysteries found in every child's home. There are trouble makers in the house and they live under the bed.
As the whole family enjoys the stories, parents may be surprised to discover that dirty foot prints and messes of every sort are actually the work of mischievous Monsters. While it's obvious to kids that Monsters make the messes, some interesting and fun conversations will result as this new information is shared.
The rhymes in each of Melinda Kinsman's books are funny and clever. The illustrations are comical and colorful and there are more mysteries and puzzles to solve with each new adventure. The Top of the Wardrobe Gang does it again. Five stars for fun!
Another great addition to The Top of the Wardrobe Gang series. Odd Sock narrates this tale, and P.D. Monkey leaves a partially eaten cookie hdden in each picture as added fun for the reader. Odd Sock tells the reader that there are some really naughty monsters hiding under Billy's bed. Out they pop one by one to do mischief like writing with black permanent marker, spilling flour, slinging jello, and leaving prints all over the house. Guess who gets the blame every morning? These nefarious monsters can't be seen by the adults in the house.
The illustrations are bright and colorful; the monsters are rather cute and cuddly. Preschoolers and primary school age children will love the rhyme, pictures and humor. Creative monster puzzles included at the end of the story are an added bonus. I highly recommend that you add this book to your collection.
Melinda Kinsman has done it again!! She and her Top of the Wardrobe Gang have written a book that is not only fun to look at but great to read! There are monsters that appeal to everyone! There is one that loves crossword puzzles and drags around his pet log, one that bakes, one that writes on Billy's bed and one that loves to sleep under the bed with his huge feet sticking out! The vocabulary is wonderful for both kids and their parents! there is always something new you can see on each page! We love the activity pages too! We are great big fans of the Top of the Wardrobe Gang! Great book that is fun to read over and over!!
I absolutely adore this funny, rhyming picture book! There are monsters in the house and they're always being naughty. Making a mess and leaving things about. Unfortunately grown-ups can't see the monsters! Every page is quite funny, and Melinda's illustrations are fantastic! They support the story quite well. I think my favorite page is the one about the monsters labeling the bed with a permanent marker. Oops! I think grown-ups and kids will both enjoy this adorable book. I loved it!
Oh, and as an added bonus, Odd Sock is on LOTS of the pages! Yay Odd Sock!
Odd Sock, ever eloquent, tells this fun rhyming story of monsters and mayhem, mischief and messes. Young readers will enjoy the many monsters, some sloppy, some noisy, some studious, some crafty, some clingy, some hoggy, all of them hungry! Boys, girls, moms, dads, and grandparents are sure to recognize themselves and their own funny habits.
A perfect Rhyming Picture Book with simple text, but funny verse. The Monsters take naps and made a big mess. My favorite one, the purple Monster, knits. Thank you for sharing Melinda Kinsman excellent bed time stories.
