And it's completely awesome. It's a fun horror romp from the 80s, complete with cheese and child acting. The creature effects hold up nicely, where as some of the others do not. The monsters look and sound cool, which is the most important thing. There are bits of homophobia and stereotypes, but mild in nature and from the perspective of foul mouthed 80s kids with no understanding of the world. It has several quotable lines, one of which will stick with a young one forever.
Older kids will have a good time with this movie. However, the monsters are legitimately scary enough to be nightmare fuel for younger and more sensitive kids. This is a good movie for tweens and up to see that skirts the edge of what most parents will allow for that age.
It's a great Halloween flick that stands the test of time very well considering it's budget and target. Not something you'll likely watch a bunch of times, but definitely something most horror fan kids should see at the right age at least once. This is a gateway drug for horror movies, and it's effective at entertaining both the target audience and adults for its run time. Just don't go in expecting something on the level of a horror comedy like Ghostbusters and you'll likely have a good time.
It's along the line of "Goonies". A group of kids figure out that classic monsters have come to their town. They defeat the monsters, proving to their skeptical parents that they've saved the day. A real feel good movie sure to please young and old.
Kids are ready for this at about 8 years old. Get the popcorn poppin'! I'm ready to turn my granddaughter into a fan. That's three generations!
It's pure 80s adventure-cheese, with adults who are bamboozled because they are off living their lives and aren't paying any attention to the really important stuff. Thank goodness we have our intrepid brand of heroes!
They are wisecracking and rag-tag, but a ton of fun and they act like kids in a lot of 80s movies, which is to say, somewhat more like actual kids. They pick on each other, they curse (a little, nothing awful), they are just fun to watch.
Silly, goofy, and fun. Like Goonies, but Halloween-ideal (and I actually prefer this one).
The movie revolves around a group of kids who discover that classic movie monsters have moved into their town, and they fight them.
This movie is a fun way to waste an hour and a half. Their are some really cheesy moments in the movie that were funnier when I was a kid. I'll admit my score may be a little inflated due to nostalgia, and how excited I am to have this in my collection. The writing does a good way of paying homage to each monster, but the script is all over the place. The kid actors are not very good, but then again not much acting in the movie is good, IMO.
Their is not a lot of violence in the movie, but their are some violent scenes, particularly near the end.
The big drawback to me with this release was the lack of special features.
It makes no sense that a movie wouldn't have subtitles on a blu ray.
