The case that comes with this is really nice. It is sturdy, made of tough woven fabric and is ingeniously designed. Al snaps and cords are high quality and the zipper is heavy duty too.
Be aware that the brushes are heavily sized. That means you have to rinse them well with water prior to the first use to get the bristles flowing well.
I do mostly watercolor, but also dabble in gouache and acrylic. These brushes are great for all of those, AS LONG AS YOU KEEP BRUSHES CLEAN AND NOT LET ACRYLIC DRY IN THEM. The assortment is fabulous, and the quality is also good. There is a good spring to the brushes (which I really like in my brushes), great points, and solid shaping. The palette knife is handy for putting thick paint onto a palette or use in thicker styles of painting.
For watercolor, these have been fabulous. I have not used them for acrylic or gouache yet. The spring is nice and the tips are great for precise painting areas. They seem to hold a fair amount of paint too which is an advantage. They are not the biggest holders of paint, but they perform well.
The case turns into a stand which you can use for painting, putting the brushes back into the case as you use them. There is one thing to be aware of, when using brushes, you will have to rinse them so putting back into the case wet can cause the ferules to break down quickly. It is best to hang them bristles down in a holder until dry and then put in the case.
THE BOTTOM LINE
This is a great set of brushes. The case is well made, makes a nice stand and is very protective of the brushes when not in use.
FIVE STARS for this one. I am impressed with the brushes and will use them a lot. I hope to update when I use them for acrylic if I have anything to add.
Inside: Easel Wallet, 1 pallet Knife, 15 brushes.
After opening up the set, I washed the brushes with a bit of warm water and then dried them.
Softened them right up and are ready to paint.
This is a great set of variety brushes.
The different types of brushes in the set: Round, Fan, Flat, Filbert, Angular, Liner and the Palette Knife.
The brushes are made really well. Nice green painted handles. Ferrule, metal bristle holders work perfectly.
White printing on the brush handles, has the brush size with type and branded Mont Marte Logo.
Bristles are Taklon (mimics boar bristle)
Tested the entire set of 15 brushes and the palette knife.
Made a painting on a 12x16 canvas and it looks great thanks to these brushes.
No issues and the brushes cleaned up with warm water after use.
Dried them and then stored them in the zipper case.
The zipper case also acts as an easel!
Love the Easel Wallet.
To set up the easel you will need to first unsnap the 2 buttons on the wallet.
Then attach the 2 straps together with the button.
Now you have a brush easel.
I stored my brushes by type. See photos.
This is perfect for my painting on the go!
Recommend to any artist that wants to keep a brush set in a convenient zipper wallet.
Hope this helps.
Each set also has a palette knife with wooden handle and metal blade, with the blade on this one being about ½" longer. The handles are all similar in size and shape, with these slightly slimmer and easier to hold in my hand (adult medium). The ferrules on this set are evenly and smoothly pinched in at two places and look to have a better grip than on the other set.
So generally speaking, these two sets are quite similar. The biggest difference is in actually using the brushes. Both are good, so far, about not losing much of their hair content and both feel pleasant to the touch after their initial "starch" is loosened. Both also perform fine with acrylic paint. But for watercolor, there's no contest. These are much better at picking up and laying down both water and watercolor paints. If you paint with acrylics only, you'd likely be happy with either set. If you paint with watercolor, choose this one. You'll be glad you did.
