Editorial Reviews

Review

"Overall, this story gave me something to cheer about on many levels. Debra Salonen knows how to write a story to captivate and hold a readers attention the whole way through, and then leave them begging for the next book." - Chris McFarland, Goodreads

"I just have to read more from this author I love her style of writing.
I would recommend it to all who love to read romance and don't mind a little humor thrown in." - Bonnie Gonzales, Goodreads

"Great story from start to finish." - Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
"Austen and Serena seem like opposites but after Austen gets into the swing of "cowboy life," you could tell they were the perfect fit for each other. I enjoyed how they met and became friends-with-benefits; it was quite funny and sweet. I can't wait to see what this series will bring next! I highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a fun, quick, contemporary romance! - From Me to You ... Book Reviews

From the Author

The Austen Zabrinski who is introduced to readers in Book I of the Big Sky Mavericks series is...how should I put this?...a PITA (pain in the arse.) I mean it. He's a jerk. But his jerkiness provides the perfect foil for my heroine, Bailey, to stand up to him, and my hero to heroically, plant a right hook on his brother's cheek.

I actually felt sorry for Austen by the time I finished writing MONTANA COWGIRL. I knew there had to be more to this guy, so I went looking--and I fell in love. Who doesn't feel for a lost soul who had the proverbial magic carpet pulled out from under him?

But Austen probably would still be moping around Marietta, if not for the beautiful, independent neighbor who teaches him there's more to life than politics and cows. For one things, there are alpacas. Researching these adorable, inquisitive little animals was pure delight! And how many authors can say there's an alpaca bearing the name of your heroine? If you're ever at Epic Alpacas in Catheys Valley, California, be sure to ask to meet Serena James. She's gorgeous!

Happy reading!

Serena James first meets Austen Zabrinski when he wanders onto her property after being thrown off and abandoned by his horse while out for a ride. Serena has been trying to tend to a sick alpaca but needs some assistance, so Austen agrees to help her in exchange for a ride home. What follows is one of the most comical scenes that I have read in a long time. Nobody's Cowboy by Debra Salonen is a new Big Sky Mavericks novel. It is creative, highly humorous, and has a lot of very interesting information about alpacas. It is a spicy read with quite a bit of profanity and off-color language.

I read this book pretty blindly. I have never read this author before, nor have I read the series and it is a series. I also never read cowboy stories and OMG I really loved it. I could not put it down.

It can be read as a stand alone and it features some wonderful characters who have struggled and found each other. It has close friends and family and I really loved the lead characters.

The story features Serena a newbie in town who is raising Alpacas, she loves them and has a whole herd. She rents a ranch/house from our heroes brother Paul, and our hero is Austin, a down and out former politician who is suspected of corruption.

Serena is running from a stalker, who is stalking her to try and get her to find her birth mother. Austin is a Harvard grad with land and no job and so he comes home and meets Serena.

His horse bolts one day and he ends up on Serena's land and she needs some help and so he volunteers. He ends up in some s***ty stuff and that was very amusing. He then asks her for a date when Serena expresses an interest in being a friends with benefits with him.

Despite that they form a real romance and I loved the characters, the story and the romance.

This was such an easy book to read, and really enjoyable too. Austen has a longstanding reputation for being "not very nice". He's back in Marietta licking his wounds and working out what he wants to do with his life after becoming embroiled in scandal while working as a political mover and shaker for a local senator. Serena is also getting her life back on track after being the object of a stalker. She's sold up and moved herself, her 50 alpacas, two llamas and a very large dog to a new home on the ranch she is renting from Austen's brother Paul. The chemistry between Austen and Serena fairly sizzles. Watching them discover there is more to their relationship has been fun.

This book had off color language and explicit sex in the very first chapters. The reviews were all so good, I find it strange
that no one is offended enough by explicit sex to mention it in a review, so that those of us that don't want to read that
kind of book can be alerted.

Serena James wasn’t a loner, really. She just grew up on a farm, homeschooled with her adopted family. It did teach her though that she knew honesty. Also that she didn’t have time or energy for liars or fakes. Life has a way of throwing curve balls at you though and when she gains a stalker she runs with her Alpaca’s to Montana and it’s there she is going to start her Alpaca farm.

Austin Zabrinski was always in the limelight. There was nothing he liked better, after all he was the Harvard grad, working for a Congressman. Yet as they say the higher in ego, the harder they fall and Austin was about to learn that the hard way. Coming home to Montana to lick his wounds and figure out his life seemed to be the thing to do, he just didn’t realize it was going to be so hard.

Serena and Austin meet as neighbors and through Alpaca and there poop learn what it’s like to trust others. However when the biggest changes occur will they leave each other and return to their previous lives? Or will they realize that together they are so much better than they ever were apart?

Back to Marietta which is such an amazing town to be in we find Austin and Serena. This story is part of a bigger series involving Austin’s family and while can be read alone is much better if you have the background of the family and I’m hopeful is leading into the new stories. This particular story is well written and a quick read. While not as involved emotionally as some of the others in the series it does add more detail to the series and appears to be laying the groundwork for bigger and better. I’m excited to see where this heads.

This is Book 2 in The Big Sky Mavericks series. It is written by Debra Salonen. It is Austen and Serena.
When Serena first sees Austen, she can tell he is "nobody's cowboy".
He owns a ranch, he has his cowboy hat, he has his cowboy boots. Everyone that knows him in Marietta though thinks of him as a wealthy politician, though and not a cowboy. After a nasty scandal, he comes back to his ranch.
Serena is his neighbor. She moved to Montana to get a fresh start, away from her online stalker. She has a herd of alpacas, a few llamas, and her dog. Her escrow falls through, and she has to find a safe haven to rent.
I really enjoyed reading this. I love the first time Serena and Austen meet. There is instant sparks! I enjoyed learning more about alpacas.
