I enjoyed this book SO much. Hayden was an absolute sweetheart of a hero, and Edythe was literally the sweetest, most tolerant heroine that I have ever read about in a romance novel. For the record, her incredible tolerance level was shown in her dealing with a terrible employment situation and not issues with Hayden so please don't let that description of her scare you off. I found myself wanting to speak up on her behalf so many times, but she just kept her temper and was lovely and wonderful the entire time. And Hayden was absolutely wonderful. He was hard-working and a good, solid, honorable man who just wanted to grow his fruit and make an honest life for himself. He pursued Edythe in the sweetest, most innocent of ways, and (SPOILER ALERT) although I wasn't crazy about the way that they were basically forced to marry, I had no doubt that they would actually make it as a couple. I would have very happily read a full-length novel about these two, I liked them that much. The side characters were also wonderful (minus the Cobbs!), adding a lot to this book without overpowering it at all.
This novella is a beautiful example of Reina Torres' amazing talent of telling a story in such a way that gets you completely engrossed in it from the very start (in this case it was Hayden's bad mood that drew me in). Ms. Torres weaves the kind of tale that makes me not want to put the book down until I know how the story ends, but at the same time, I like the characters so much that I don't want the book to end.
If you enjoy a beautifully written story about a bunch of really likable characters (and two not at all likable characters!) who find love together in a difficult situation, you definitely should give this one a read.
I had the distinct pleasure to have been given Reina Torres’s novella Montana Sky: Stay with Me in exchange for an honest review. I understand that this is a spin-off of Debra Holland’s Montana Sky Series, which I have not had the pleasure of reading. Since I haven’t read Debra Holland’s Montana Sky Series I don’t have any preconceived notions about the town of Sweetwater Springs, Montana. I enjoy most every genre written except Horror or Historical stories. This story is a Western Romance, which I admit isn’t my top five favorite genres, but I do enjoy a good Western Romance every now and then. I have to admit though that this Western Romance novella really captivated me and kept pulling me deeper into the story. I had a great time in Sweetwater Springs with the masterfully put together characters. Reina Torres’s Montana Sky: Stay with Me is a sweet short story about love and attraction at first sight. Meet Hayden Samuels who worked hard to prove himself to his father and make something of himself without his father’s help. All the while he is working to gain his own spread in Sweetwater Springs. Next comes Edythe Devon who moved to Sweetwater Springs on the promise of a job at the mercantile to gain a life of her own away from her father. After Edythe steps off the train and her eyes meet Hayden’s you can see sparks fly between them and it’s obvious they are attracted to each other. Throughout the novella there were a few twists and turns which had you wondering if Hayden and Edythe would end up together or apart. The town of Sweetwater Springs reminds me of Little House on the Prairie, and the character Mrs. Cobb reminds me of Harriet the rude busy body who owns the mercantile with her husband Nels in Walnut Grove. It was easy to relate to the characters, which made the story more enjoyable to read. However, it is hard to relate to love at first sight so when I came to the end of the story and Hayden proposed to Edythe after only knowing her a short time it was hard to swallow. Especially since in this day and time people wait years after dating before marriage is ever brought up. Although I had to remind myself that this was the era where arranged marriages and quick marriages happened. It was shameful during this time to be seen together without a chaperone without it being seen as indecent in the eyes of the public. I highly recommend that you to read this novella because everyone reacts to a story differently. The story line was captivating and the characters were delightful. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
