The contrasting leather-like accents (Nowhere in the description or on the tags can I find out what this bag is made of, but I have to assume it's not leather or they would be touting that.) and blue plaid fabric interior are classy touches that give this bag a masculine feel. The bag meets most airlines' carry-on requirements as long as it's not overstuffed.
BUT, and this is a big but, mine arrived in pretty poor condition. It has scratches, nicks, and scuff marks all over it. I've attached pictures. It might be hard to make out, but I wanted to include proof so my rating doesn't seem unfair. Had this bag arrived in perfect condition, I would have given it five stars. But it looks like it has already had a couple of years of use. (I can't return it as it's from the Vine program.) But I want potential buyers to be aware that the outer material scratches easily and will quickly start to show wear.
I was drawn to this bag primarily as a laptop bag. I've been using simple bag to transport my laptop, but I didn't feel like it gave me the requisite padding I needed in the even of an accidental drop.
Well, I definitely got more than I was expecting.
As many others have stated, this is more like a weekend getaway bag. It's big enough you could stash two or three worth of clothes, toiletries, and your laptop/iPad/etc.
There are so many compartments and pockets that you're very likely to forget you packed something in that particular space.
It's a very attractive bag. The blue and brown compliment well, and the interior blue plaid is gorgeous. There are a few inserts inside, too.
I do have to admit that is probably not best as just a laptop bag. I don't think there's enough cushioning. BUT, if you're going a way, you could place your laptop in between some clothes.
This bag comes with a hefty price, but this is one of the few instances where I feel the price is justified.
The Montauk is sharp looking and has plenty of room to store enough for an overnight trip or your portfolio samples to make a good presentation. The bottom 80% of the case is black/deep navy blue and appears to be leather. It has brown leather trim on the front and back and leather trim on the handle and the strap anchoring tabs. The pull tabs on the zippers are also brown leather. So, it is a very impressive looking bag.
The interior lining is a navy-blue tartan material. There is a rather large front pocket – 8” deep by 16” wide with the back panel consisting of three organizer pouch pockets and two pen/pencil pockets.
In the main compartment is a removable laptop pocket that measures 18” wide by 12.5” deep with a Velcro closure strap. It is held in place by two snaps on either end. If you are not carrying a laptop, this can be removed for additional room. On the front side are two pouch pockets and on the rear of compartment is one open pouch pocket capable of holding a tablet.
On the rear of the bag is a dual-purpose compartment. It has a zipper on the top and the bottom, so if you wish to secure this on the handle of a rolling bag, you unzip both the top and bottom zippers and it slides over your rolling bag handle. If you do not need to secure it to a rolling bag, it can function as an additional storage space.
There is a removable adjustable shoulder strap.
The bag is 9” across at the bottom and about 20” wide, so it provides plenty of room to function as an overnight bag.
This bag is attractive, designed for the professional. It will function equally well as a smart overnight bag, a portfolio case or an overlarge brief case.
It will look smart in any business setting.
For me it's kind of a weird size; too big to take into work, not quite big enough to take on a trip. But that's just me. You might like a carry on that is smaller than the usual big things people somehow get past security. I don't know if this would fit under the seat in front of you. I use a slim tough backpack when I travel so that's what I kick under there.
It has lots of little pockets - and that neat thing most bags have where it sort of slides onto the long handle for the big travel bag you have. Looks really cool! Definitely will class up your travel bags!
