Super fun has cool stories included.
There are included adventures to run of you're new role playing games. Otherwise if you've ever GM'd then it's really nice not to get tied up and deep rules and options.
This is literally everything I was hoping for when I ordered it.
I've played Amazing Tales and NTYE with my son. I've also created mini Starfinder adventures (that are age appropriate and focus on solving problems without violence) that use a hybrid FATE CORE system ruleset/FATE dice. I own Little Wizards but found that to be too advanced for a 4 year old--will panky need to wait a year or two to try out that system.
All that to say I've tried a lot with my son and if you're on the fence about any of the above options NTYE has been what's worked best for him and I.
Highly recommend!
The box was heavier than I expected. The components are beautiful. But after waiting a long time for the physical product to be in stock here instead of just buying a digital copy, I was disappointed to see that many pages in the rulebook have weird wrinkles in them and one of the punch-out tokens is missing from my box. If I understand the character templates correctly, it won't affect gameplay for me - I don't think my kids and I will ever need to use all the tokens at once. But still, quality control should have caught this.
I've been playing Numenera using the Cypher System from Monte Cook Games for 2 or more years. I very-much enjoy the game play system. I have 3 kids - 12, 9, 6. Each at a different level of game playability, so Dungeons & Dragons hasn't really been a good fit.
I've waited for a whole year to get No Thank You, Evil!!!!!!!!
I am NOT disappointed. Monte Cook Games packed a lot of awesome into this box set, including a 3-part campaign/story to get you started if you're not sure where to begin!
There are 3 types of character sheets - Beginner, Intermediate and Master! Fine... not Master, but the types are as follows:
Beginner: My character is a Noun.
Intermediate: My character is an Adjective Noun.
More skilled: My character is an Adjective Noun who Verbs.
So.... I'm doing a My Little Pony adventure. Starting w/ the 3 core stories and then branching off from there.
One of the characters is a Scientist Pony (Pegasus) who Mixes Chemicals.
Each player gets a Companion. In this instance, a floating tiny turtle. The game rules show you some core companion types and you can use them, or make your own, and use similar stats.
I'm so excited to begin play. The rule book is a very easy to understand version of the Cypher System. I am completely sure a 4 year old could learn this game, while playing with a 12 year old.
Thanks!
My niece just turned 6 and my nephew just turned 9. They both love it and we've bought the expansions as well. They love the dance party breaks, and we've often run adventures moving from room to room in our house which added a little something extra.
The stories are built in such a way as to give you a lot of leeway as to how in depth with the rules you want to go, which is handy for younger kids.
The only negatives are that it's a little pricey and you only get 4 pre-built adventures and not really enough tokens for more than maybe 3 players (coins especially). If you get it, make copies of the play sheets before you use them, you'll run out otherwise.
Despite the price and limited tokens and playsheets, I highly recommend this.
