I couldn't agree more. Monthly giving is the holy grail of fundraising. So why aren't more organizations, particularly American organizations, using it? Could it be that they simply don't know HOW to get started?
Author Erica Waasdorp takes over where Harvey McKinnon, in his landmark book, Hidden Gold, leaves off and gives readers the nuts and bolts of starting -- and growing -- your monthly giving program. And she does it in a way that's easily understood and easily implemented, from branding (her advice? don't stress, keep it simple), to targeting (you might be surprised at her suggestions), to how to use a variety of channels (she's even included telemarketing scripts). Loaded with solid examples, not to mention a fabulous contribution from Jerry Huntsinger that will, quite literally, guide you step-by-step through the process of drafting your first monthly giving program letter, and you've got a real winner of a book that should be on every fundraiser's bookshelf.
My sense is that fundraising doesn't always come naturally. While the books on social change theory have their place, I really appreciate books that give the reader solid tactics and step-by-step guidelines. Month Giving: The Sleeping Giant does just that.
Don't delay. Buy now. Oh, and don't forget to implement.
The author walks us through the steps, from donor acquisition to deepening relationships to long-term commitment.
Monthly Giving is full of examples and samples. It also includes up-to-date analysis. These are real life cases and numbers--settings in which you can see your own organization. The author has also gathered input from noted experts in the field, from around the world.
Fund-raisers and donor relations staff, If you want to get better at what we do, Monthly Giving: The Sleeping Giant is a great resource for you.
A "must have", "must read" for every organization regardless of size.
When I look around, I'm surprised by the dearth of books on this topic, but I'm just as surprised at how few have well developed monthly programs. Surely these two realities are interrelated. This is shocking since there is no stronger proven financial program than an army of monthly sustainers, but especially in a time of uncertainty, and God knows we are in a time of great uncertainly.
Monthly Giving, The Sleeping Giant fills the void, so if you don't have a monthly donor program get Erica's book and start one before its too late. No excuses! And, there's excellent information about monthly giving for everyone from start-ups to experienced organizations and from just about every angle.
