Editorial Reviews
This all-star band succeeds at bringing back the sound of the classic Art Van Damme Quintet while infusing the music with their own individual personalities. Recreates a sound heard in clubs in the 1960s and 70s, when the accordion was the lead instrument. Inspired by Art Van Damme, who led a quintet with vibes, guitar, bass, and drums. As a studio musician during 1945 1960, he worked constantly on radio and television for NBC. He hosted his own 15-minute show for NBC Radio for 139 episodes, worked with many singers (including Jo Stafford), and recorded at least 42 albums as a leader, and over 150 overall. Steve Hobbs wrote the arrangements, bringing back the Van Damme sound in a fresh, modern way

This CD was recommended by someone I know and I purchased it on that basis. I was absolutely blown away by the tasteful elegance of the musicianship (the accordion in particular), and treatment to each selection. The most outstanding cut by far is "Oblivion"! I listened to this while in my car and actually started applauding at the end! This CD and "Oblivion" in particular, deserves soft lighting, a comfortable chair, roaring fireplace, and a good glass of wine. You will NOT be sorry you have purchased this sophisticated compilation.

The North America Jazz Alliance is the best from the United States and Canada in the quintet assembled by record producer Peter Maxymych. Where he came up with the idea of forming a quintet composed of guitar, bass, accordion, drums and vibraphone is anybody's guess, but it works exceptionally well. Add in a vocalist to offer variation and color and we have one of the most impressive recordings of jazz to come down the pike in a while!
The members of this groups are Greg Clayton, guitar, Steve Hobbs, vibraphone (and arranger), Alec Walkington, bass, Kenny Kotwitz, accordion, Dave Laing, drums, and supply the supple and stylish vocals is John Labelle. The sound they produce is sophisticated and mellow with a spin on snazzy. John Labelle offers his fine voice and style to `Close your Eyes', `Nobody Else But Me', and `Dancing in the Dark', while the quintet one their own serve up `Just One of Those Things', `Cute', `Oblivion', `Angele Eyes,' `Delilah,' `It Could Happen to You,' `Only Trust Your Heart,' and `That's All.' The sound is an homage to the Art Van Damme Quintet and a finer tribute could not be imagined.
The mellow sound is seductive and the technical mastery of the instrumentalist is obvious. This is a jazz lover's dream and one that likely will become a very popular nominee for a Grammy. Try it! Grady Harp, January 13

Never mind that. This album is as near perfect as a jazz record can be. The production, arrangements and performances on every song are spot on. Kotwitz is amazing, and Hobbs shines, as always. Truly a classy and classic performance. Beautiful music.
