This is a good story. I was very disappointed that the author never mentioned the word Biafra in the whole story. I purchased the book because of the great respect I had to the Great War hero, General Phillip Effiong. I know Montys story is drawn from that war so I wanted more from that perspective especially when he went back to Biafra land which the writer referred to as some nation. I spit of this, I gave it a 4 star because of the story itself. I would have given it a 5 star if the story covered more about the war of which I experienced as a child. That was my main reason for buying this book. However, the writer told q great story about a young infants inexperience and the cruelty of war, loss, and hope. A good read.

This book starts out in a surreal landscape of chaos and the degradation of humanity that is a bit off-putting, and the following few chapters wobble as well in drawing one into the story. But by the time he's a teenager, Monty has developed an intriguing personality that will keep the reader turning the pages, trying to see the world through the eyes of this unique individual. This novel, for me, is an interesting exploration of what makes us who we are, and how our individuality is formed. Tough the narrative is bogged down by over exposition and sometimes a repetition of thoughts and material in several places, I like the overall theme on the things that make us different and how one can come to terms with their place in life and still excel.

I have read books but this is a great book, I must say.

The expertise of the writter cannot be exaggerated.

I read Monty in the shortest possible time. It keeps you flipping through every page until you get to the very end.

If you haven't read this book then you haven't read any book yet.

Seriously, take some time out, get your hands on Monty.

Monty is highly intellectual, emotional and has a lot of moral lessons.

This phenomenal book describes horrible scenes in a very light manner in the sense that it creates a rational graphic mental picture in the reader's mind.

Among novels written by blacks, this is one of the best I have read. I read this over 300 page book in one night

I give Monty a G-rating. It is indeed a good book.
