When the original single Personal Best DVDs were first released a few years ago, I immediately snapped up the discs of my two favorite Pythons, Inspector Harry "Snapper" Organs, and Gordon Ottershaw. I watched one, and was thoroughly underwhelmed....since I already had owned the Complete Python both in VHS and later, DVD, I hoped for some new insight, maybe Pontius Pilate and Mr Creosote giving their own cosmic views on what they considered their best. No such luck. These are all just re-hashes, with no personal views at all, so here's another marketing ploy by Eric Idle Global Enterprises to wrest more hard-earned cash from the loyal followers of Python.
Your Pythonic addiction would be better served by buying  The Complete Ripping Yarns , although I would highly recommend buying the Region 2 set from AmazonUK for one extremely important reason: no stupid, self congratulatory promos for the A & E Network or BBC America. (By the way, don't let the Region 2 thing put you off: it's surprisingly easy to hack a US DVD player into submission, enabling you to watch all sorts of great British programming not available in the US)
Now I have to decide: what's a better deal, a new copy of this Personal Best set for $39.99, or the used copy for $149.99? Whoever the Marketplace seller is that thinks they can rip someone off for that much, all I can say is "What a silly bunt!"

Terry Gilliam's disc was about an hour too long. His odd animation is fantastic as a segue between acts but when it goes on and on and on...But the rest of the set is fantastic. A must have for any Python fan.

I purchased the set hoping to get the some of the best bits / most well known sketches of Monty Python and I have been sorely disappointed. The interludes in Cleese's disc are ludicrous / unfunny, as are a number of them on other discs. My suggestion would be for the owners of the material to have a fan vote for what is the best and make a set out of that so maybe we could get the Ministry of Silly Walks and other well known pieces rather than second rate renditions filmed at the Hollywood Bowl.

Eben dieses Unsinn-Gedicht bildete 1977 für Terry Gilliam die Grundlage für seinen Film.

Mittelalter.
Erzählt wird die Geschichte vom armen Mann, der auszieht, eine Gefahr, die das Königreich bedroht (Jabberwock) zu töten und
die Hand seiner Liebsten zu gewinnen.
So weit so einfach. Wäre nicht Terry Gilliam der Regiesseur, der ja bekanntlich zu Monty Python gehört und bei dem Film noch dazu
Unterstützung in der Hauptrolle seines MP Kammeraden Michal Palin hatte.

Ganz klar: Der Film ist KEIN Monty Pyhton Film. Der Film ist aber ein Terry Gilliam Film. Das heißt, es wird eine strukturierte
Geschichte erzählt, die aber den Terry Gilliam eigenen Blick auf die Dinge hat und dadurch teils lustig, teils schrullig, aber nicht
wie erwartet verläuft.

Im sehr interessanten Making of erzählen im Interview Terry Gilliam, Michal Palin, Annette Badland, u. w. Es wird auf die Entstehungs-
geschichte eingegangen und, interessanter Weise, das who-is-who der zeitgenössischen UK Komikerliga beleuchtet, die im Film mitspielen.

Der Film wurde mit einem 4K Scan restauriert und von Capelight in diesem Mediabook veröffentlicht:

Das MB selbst folgt der typischen Capelight Gestaltung. Das Material fühlt sich angenehm weich an.
Die Größe entspricht normalen MB, es ist also größer als die Amaray BD Hüllen.
Die Verarbeitungsqualität macht eine Capelight typischen guten Eindruck.

Die beiliegende Info Card ist sehr stabil, ich würde mal sagen, ungefähr so dick wie eine Postkarte. Diese lässt sich gut
im MB lagern.
Hier finden sich alle wichtigen Infos zum Film: Inhalt, Szenen Fotos, Cast and Crew, technische Spezifikationen, etc.

Im Fazit ein schönes Mediabook, preislich sehr attraktiv.
Es wird dem Film gerecht.
Dieser ist auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert für Zuschauer, die den Monty Python Humor mögen, bzw. die Filme von Terry Gilliam mögen.
Der Film ist auch nicht ohne Grund freigegeben ab 16, da er doch so manche derbe Szene parat hält, was aber eben auch wiederum zu MP und T.Gilliam
passt.
Mit dieser VÖ bekommt man den Film in einem ansprechenden Mediabook und in der z.Zt. bestmöglichen Qualität.

Schrulligstes Terry Gilliam Werk überhaupt. Während andere Filme von ihm meist eine Message rüberbringen, begleiten wir als Zuseher einfach nur einen Bauerntölpel, der von einem Fettnäpfchen ins andere Steigt und auch noch ungeschoren davonkommt. Neben der dünnen Handlung sollte man sich viel lieber auf das Drumherum konzentrieren um den vollen Umfang des Films zu erleben. Nebenereignisse werden oft nur über das Bild oder lapidare Sätze beendet. Wie zum Beispiel der Bettler mit einem Fuß , den er sich ja selbst angeschnitten hat um mehr Almosen zu bekommen. Um den Profit zu verdoppeln wird ihm geraten sich noch das andere abzuschneiden. Nur wer immer schön am Bildschirm hängt wird sehen ob er es auch gemacht hat….

Dieser Film bietet einige gute Gags und wirklich top Unterhaltung in einen düsteren Mittelalterszenario! Zwischendurch ist es manchmal allerding etwas langatmig und kommt nicht ganz an die Qualität von "Die Ritter der Kokosnuss" heran. Das Mediabook ist schön gemacht und der Druck hervorragend.

Insgesamt eine absolute Kaufempfehlung für jeden der den Humor von Monty Python Filmen mag!

Wer sich auf Monty Python Humor freut, sei vorgewarnt. Neben ziemlich guter dreckiger Mittelalter Atmosphäre hat der Film leider leidlich wenig zu bieten. In wenigen Momenten komisch, dafür träge und laaangatmig inszeniert. Dadurch lädt der Film auch nicht zum Wiederanschauen ein. Mehr Drama als Komödie.
