This book is fantastic because it is well documented from a reputable person. There are videos out there of his presentations to NASA, the UN etc on this topic. You'll find this a long book, and that's ok ~ you want and need and deserve the detail. You can also follow up with an even better book by Hoagland "Dark Mission" (newer with additional information). There are many photos, he documents where he got them ~ you can do your own research. He includes expert analysis and the book is very well written by a well educated person. Get this now and then keep reading in this area with other books like: "UFOs" by Leslie Kean and "Crash at Corona" by Stanton T. Friedman.

Are we the product or leftovers from another more advanced civilization? Was our solar system engineered?
Is our moon, 2 of the moons of Mars and a moon of Saturn artificial? Is the tetrahedron at the center of
planetary physics (that pesty 19.5 degree angle)? Can all of interesting stuff be found at 19.5* north and
south of the equator (Mauna Loa and the pyramids on earth, Face of Mars on Mars, Big Spot on Jupiter)?
Richard's book can not answer all of these questions. What is discussed is the face of Mars and other
structures on the surface of Mars (pyramids) and the analysis behind the pronouncements . There are photos in
the book of the various structures, but the newer online satellite images should give a better view.
What is also discussed is the don't ask, don't tell NASA policy about anything out of this world, that was crafted in the 1950s
and still carries on today. This discussion leads into a question of whether there are 2 NASAs, one that we are
familiar with, and another that works in the dark and cleans up images and video before they are released to
the public.
The book also covers the struggles the author has had with NASA - both good and bad. The bad
revolves around the face(s) of Mars and the possible interpretations between rock and light tricks
and an set of actual artifacts on Mars. NASA 's updated flyover and image of the Face(s) that
was really trashed using computer de-enhancement. By comparison, ESA's image, that you can
find on-line, looks totally different (google Face of Mars).
So, is it science fiction or possibly fact? The reader has to make that decision. Thought provoking to say
the least.

Mr. Hoagland's book is revealing in all honesty what Brooking Institute is performing government research. In its report in 1960s, the Brooking Institute wrote, "The report has become noted for one short section titled, "The implications of a discovery of extraterrestrial life," which examines the potential implications of such a discovery on public attitudes and values. The section briefly considers possible public reactions to some possible scenarios for the discovery of extraterrestrial life, stressing a need for further research in this area. It recommends continuing studies to determine the likely social impact of such a discovery and its effects on public attitudes, including study of the question of how leadership should handle information about such a discovery and under what circumstances leaders will find it advisable to withhold such information from the public."
When we trust our teenagers to be responsible while driving. We can handle the truth about the existence other being. All the Holy Books do confirm that such beings do exist. The Brooking Institute does not think we can handle the truth, when the Lord God thinks we can. Whom do we believe God or human? The answer is God. Wonderful book for anyone who wants to know the truth.

had a hard time being convinced that the photos showed nothing but rocks except perhaps the Face structure.

Some photos, like that face, looked like a deliberate creation, and the tunnels looked legit, but most photos just looked like rocks that looked like things (pareidolia). I do believe that there are signs of life now or previously on Mars and the moon, but I think Hoagland was stretching to come to some of his conclusions. Still, it was a worthwhile book.

This is far from the first edition, having been updated quite a lot with new appendices.
Although I am broadly sceptical about the possibility of intelligent life ever existing on Mars, even as visitors, reading Hoagland's journey has been very entertaining. It does appear that NASA are doing their very hest to disprove the idea of a built structure except by photographing the area properly. The way they processed photographs from more recent missions beggars belief and was as far from acting professionally as you can get. Having said that, it doesn't mean the Face and pyramids are anything more than interesting land forms. I want to know the truth, but no longer trust NASA, especially considering their biased support of the Anthrogenic Climate Change con.
Excellent book, if a little pricey.
