Joshua Redman has had to bear the dual burdens of being the son of sax man Dewey Redman and of the media hype that accompanied his burst onto the jazz scene. Sometimes and for some people, those expectations would be too much to overcome. Joshua overcomes those burdens/expectations with brilliant tone and top notch chops.
'Wish' and 'Elastic' are both outstanding albums, as is 'Mood Swing'. The album starts with "Sweet Sorrow" which will melt you into your chair - moody, bluesy, sad and chill at the same time, the tune perfectly sets the table for your dining and dancing pleasure (if you can get out of the chair into which you've been melted). "Chill" follows and you know from the change in feel what is meant by 'Mood Swing'.
Another outstanding recording (one of his early works) from an outstanding young tenor man. Highly recommend!
