Review

The Moon: as goddess, as science, as inspiration for poetry almost everything you could want to know about the moon in a beautifully crafted book. Donna Henes' lovely work will have an honored place near the altar and near the telescope. --Margot Adler, author of Drawing Down the Moon

Enjoy this fascinating read, and give it to everyone you know who loves the moon. --Spirituality & Health Magazine

Moonwatcher's Companion is a great choice for a gift or for oneself, because human beings today are fascinated by the moon much as the ancients were. The solitary figure contemplating a huge crescent moon on the book's gorgeous, attention-grabbing cover could be any of us. I recommend Moonwatcher's Companion to people of any age who have a telescope or an interest in science or ceremony, or who simply want to increase awareness of their relationship to the moon. --New Age Retailer

As long as I can remember, the moon has enchanted me.

That slivery splendour shining down at me, I have always wondered what is it made of. How was it formed? What does it look like up close? How big is it? How far is it?

Through the years, those questions have been answered, but that did not mean the moon still did not intrigue me. I have collected books on the subject of the Sky. However, thinking I had every book on the subject I was excited to come across this little gem.

This book is a charming collection of facts, poems of everything you ever wanted to know about the moon.

The Moon Watcher's companion has a comprehensive encyclopaedia of lunar terminology. A timeline of lunar explorations and three sections that detail the moon's faces, phases, and known facts.

This book has put together a wonderful blend of myth, folklore, poems. It is beautifully anchored by l interesting lunar science.

This book is necessary in any Pagan/Wiccan's library or anyone who wants a little knowledge of that splendour in the sky.

I give this books five stars.

Ever gaze up at that luminous body in the night sky and feel enthralled? Donna Henes's latest book brings the moon vividly to life. In simple beautifully written prose she deftly weaves magic, myth, personal anecdotes, and cool scientific facts. A celestial expert, Henes presents an encyclopedic array of information in this volume. Yet, the wonderful design lends itself to a quick, satisfying read. And, the illustrations make this a must see item for kids too.

The description says "everything you ever wanted to know about the moon." That only holds true if everything you ever wanted to know, was how the moon has been worshipped by various cultures, and how to worship it. Very little useful scientific information. Browsing from my phone, which makes it hard to read about a product, I didn't realize until it was too late, what kind of book this is. The book should be titled "Moon Worshiper's Companion." The current title implies that it is a useful companion for those looking at the moon. There are plenty of wiccans, spiritualists, and hippies out there, no need to dance around what this book truly is. Make it obvious in the title and the description.

I will say it is well written and has nice illustrations, but useless to me.

Who knew that we have had such a long and wonderful relationship with the Moon? This delightful and beautifully produced book is full of information about the Moon in science, myth, and legend -- from cultures all around the world. I got the book as a gift and it's a great idea for a birthday, a ritual, or a celebration of "lunacy". You will never think of the Moon in the same way again.

I love Mama Donna and all her writings. I will try to use restraint and not gush--she teaches from a deep wealth of knowledge and still in a way that's so soulful & beautifully poetic..She includes a lot of actual poetry from different cultures and across all time, back to ancient times, but even when she describes the moon's phases or calendar or even just "Facts About the Moon", she does so in a way that I'm repeatedly moved to close my eyes and sigh and imagine and feel what she's teaching. Reading her is a rich and fulfilling and at the same time grounded and authentic experience.
.Everybody I've turned on to her has fallen for her writings immediately. I use "Celestially Auspicious Occasions" as a reference book and I use it so often I've worn out many copies. And I've given so many away that I now keep an extra 3 or 4 copies on hand. I'll do the same with this book.

Very little meat on this bone. I would have found the book more useful if it had included, for example, rising and setting times for the year, or how to tell time from the moon (yes, it can be done), and featured a little less bad poetry.

If you are just looking for some simple or basic info
on the moon this book is for you. Has alot of poems
and stories of folklore on the moon (almost too much).
But, if you are wanting to get to know that big bright
light you see at night...this is the one for you.
Does not have a bunch of lingo or info that the norm
person wouldnt understand. Go for it--you won't regret!
