Ok, update. As other reviewers have noted, there is a flaw in the design. I started to notice the pool wasn't as clean as it normally is. The debris IS falling out the bottom! Plus, stuff gets pushed out the velcro closures because it's not very tight. DO NOT buy these. Stick with the Polaris brand!
With a 2-pack of these bags, you can just replace the dirty one while you clean the other. After shaking out larger debris (like leaves), I dunk the bag in a bucket of water and agitate/gently invert parts of the bag to get the finer stuff off (sand, dirt etc). It can take a little patience (and possibly even an old toothbrush) to get some of the grit out of the velcro strips so they'll close again, so that's where a bag with a zipper might be nicer. I clean any other finer stuff (like algae) off by soaking the bag overnight in a solution that contains some Oxyclean (rather than chlorine bleach).
I have had numerous problems with these bags. -1. As noted by other users, the bags frequently floated to the top by trapping air. Both of mine did this. The bags would keep the Polaris there until I mashed the air out of the bags. -2. Whenever the pump turned off, the bags would dump out a handfull of debris into the pool in a long dirty trail. There is no partition inside the bag to block this discharge. -3. Within a few weeks of putting them into use, one or both of the attachment "ears" that hold the bag onto the debris nozzle broke off, leaving it useless, unless you want to tape it on. My experience: I will NOT buy these again.
